tanmar ym1500 breathing ?

hi im a new member from the uk just got a ym1500 everything seems ok starts without heat not smokey but breathing a bit fromthe breather pipe got that oily smell ? but no oil dripping from pipe? can anybody tell me if this model breathes a bit ? thanks

There all gonna breath/smell like oil from that tube. The reason, is that its connected to the crankcase! There is oil in there as well as tiny amounts of unburnt fuel and moisture after a long sitting. For this reason tiny drops of oil are likely to come out after a long working sessions as well as moisture when it first gets hot as it boils the water off. There will be some pulses as there is a huge amount of rotating mass in there from the crank shaft throwing oil everywhere. If you doubt this open your oil filler hole and look at the hurricane of oil that is going on in there, some droplets or mist is bound to find its way to the tube. The video is a good indication of when you need to worry!!!

thanks for the response's o it definetly dose not breath like that its more steam like and not filling the small pipe light breathing i would say .as its starts great hardly a puff of smoke and burns light grey black at exhaust pipe no heat needed . would you say the engine is not bad then? thanks

Without a load it should have almost no smoke out of the stack at operating rpms and idle. Light faint grey smoke is ok but if its heavy you may be over fueling or not burning completly? Once under a load it will darken up as there is unburned fuel in the exhaust.

But to let you know yes it sounds fine.

If it starts easily then the compression is good. If that, and fluids aren't disappearing, then there's no problem.

If you change the oil and get the condensation out of the crankcase, the vapor may disappear.

If you are uncertain about a fluid leak, be sure to use the compression release before each start to blow out any moisture from the cylinders.

thanks o it has very little to no smoke at tick over . and with finishing mower on it has a slight haze at worst from stack to start from cold on near full throttle it fires up without heat small puff smoke then clears . will check fluids in morn to check see if anything has been used. and let you all know thanks

my 1500 vents nothing at all from the crank case vent. it doesnt even have a wet film of oil around it or in it. this is how it should be if the engine is 100%. they will start to do this as they get on on hours but dont be too worried about it, sounds like it is still running well so a few more 1000 hours may still be achieveable :thumbsup:

yes i hope to get a bit of use out of it before i need to do any engine strips. i checked the oil its about 5ml bellow the top mark it has just been changed before i got it along with filters and a clutch i think it has sat about for a bit so will give it a bit of use see how it goes my old mitsi compact needed heat to start do yanmars not need heat ? as it starts so easy ? thanks
