An 1845 is only $1K cheaper that the 1850. The specs for lift are the same. Is fuel consumption the main reason people go with the 1845? One can always run the 1850 with singles if you need the narrower width.

Well Ken, When you think about that you think it's not much more to go with the 1850 but once you start adding up attachments it gets up there. For one the 90" Rough Cut Mower is $4,900 (with the Finish Cut spindles and Blades). A 90" Mower would be a bit big for us but we'd take it. Plus the 1850's 65 hp, 20 More hp than the 1845. And aren't the Loader arms basically for a 30hp tractor? I don't like the sound of that.

I don't know many people buy the 1845. I think it's the size of the machine.
Most people bought them with Single Tires before the 1445 came out.

$1000 and 20HP? I guess fuel costs could be a factor, but I am not sure how much of a real difference you are going to see...

You will be able to run the 1850 at less RPM for the same results.

I would want the added HP. Oh, and the wider mower, Man you will love it. My neigbor has a little BX with a 4 foot brush hog. Always borrowing the 1850 cause nothing cuts like 8 feet...

The extra cost in the mower is well worth it for the extra width. I do have some narrow trails in the woods that i had to widen for it but then most of that would have had to been done for the dual wheels any ways.

I hadn't really thought about this. The JD 709 Bush Hog we have has a 7 foot Cutting width and we love it. The 65hp Compared to the 55hp in our JD 5310 would be nice :) I'm just worried about the whole scalping issue I heard with the 72" but I don't see why the 72" or the 90" mower wouldn't cut grass lawns any different than a regular mower deck (when the 90" has the Finish mower blades and spindles on it) Another that kind of bothers me is that the 1850 is 65hp with basically the Lift Arms of a 30hp tractor (1430). Only 1200lb lift rating on a 65hp tractor? That seems weird to me.

I wish it had greater lift capacity since it is an all around tractor for me. The extra HP is going mainly to the PTO to drive the larger mowers.

There is nothing weird about it. It is sold as a slope mower, not as an all around machine. It you need an all around machine, it is probably not the best option.

You kidding me?

You wanted a picture of the Power Trac showroom. You got one. ;)

You didn't specify ground level, now did you? Besides, I gave you a bonus. I threw the PT factory in for free. :D

Snowridge hit it right, the 1850 is a mower first, and a utility tractor second. But, when I started comparing specs, The lift capabilities were a match for a 35hp tractor (not lift height, which is a bummer). And yes, I personally feel the lift arms could be stronger. and longer.

But I have pushed my tractor hard. and the only weak link has been the rollover. I attribute this to the 65HP pushing, but it could be also attributed to the traction you get with dualies. The arms themselves have had no issue. That may change as I am going to upgrade the rollover this summer, but that is TBD. If I break the arms, there is a great machineshop at the end of the street and I may just upgrade the PT front end..

Terry has warned me against this as he says the 1850 has thinner steel, rear weight than the 1445/1460.

But the 65HP at the wheels, it really does make a difference.
