One gallon of diesel fuel and a match works well

Rockyroad,
please keep us informed of the progress as you proceed. (Photos?)
I am starting to work on a rake in combination with the FEL to pick up acorns from Live oak Trees.
Sounds like we should end up with a simular product.
The rake on mine is to loosen the acorns up out of the grass and I think your idea of a lighter, larger bucket might be a great improvement on my project.
I am posted under attachments (started as a information request) and I will post photos as I work on mine.
Good luck to both of us.

Rocky Road,

I built a big box for the FEL - One Big Box in the attachments forum if you want to get some ideas. The sides are removable and the bottom frame is 3/4 plywood. The 2" angle iron pins to the sides of the bucket. The sides them slip in to the base and lock in with the center piece of plywood and tuck into the back of the bucket. All works well even to pickup mulch or compost.

I did bite the bullet this fall and bought a Trac Vac 580 that I tow behind my CubCadet mower. Works great, had the whole yard and the neighbors done in a day - over 10 cu yards of leaves. The TracVac with the steel cart and top can really pack a lot of leaves plus they conpost due to chopping them up.

BTW the total cost of this big box is $3.50 due to finding scrap iron and Home Depot blems for the plywood. Plus it goes on and off in about 2-3 minutes and stores flat up against the wall.
