There are several welding specific forums online also. If you're interested, and haven't ran across any, I think most all of the name brand welders, Miller, Hobart, Lincoln, etc., have moderated forums on their websites. There may also be some on Usenet if you can put up with the unmoderated BS.

I have checked out the welding forums. I tend to develop an interest in something, then research the heck out of it before jumping in. That is how I stumbled across TractorByNet. I hope to have something worthy of posting sometime in the future. Thanks for the pointers on finding forks. I guess I need to dig out the old phone book and check the Yellow Pages.

My first wife didn't get it. She felt that the time I spent working on the land or the money that I spent would have been better off going to her. After awhile of this, I realized it was the land or her.
My new wife loves the land, the tractors and living out here!!!

Our farm has been in my wife's family for over 110 years, so she is as attached to it as mine. Plus, that gets the father-in-law in my corner as well. I guess I have and advantage there. I was out in the garage touching up the welding table, (just came in to check out how much rain we've been getting this morning, now were are almost at 1/2 inch for the month), and thought I would check out TBN while I was taking a break.

I built a front loader (well, the slick features are home built and the main structure was rebuilt) about 2 years ago.
My father asked if i was sure to put some of my own money into a loader, as the sow farm generated very little income and my father had a burn-out at that time, and his physical health situation wasnt very positive either (still isnt)
He pointed at the possibility of us living in a small rental house, 5 in a row, in town within a year or two... I told him that, in the time remaining we'd at least had a good time.
2 years from then, my brother built a horse riding hall and we horse stables to others. My father turns 65 next year, which means he retires and gets a government pension. Because the weener prices are very low again, we decided to sell all sows right after the nursery barn, and keep a batch of weeners to raise for meat in the sow barn. This way, my fathers workload cuts by 2/3 and the profit will probably remain the same, as meat prices is better than weener prices for the last few years.
Anyhow, to cut the long story short, we are still happy on the farm, my brother got his building permit for a riding hall and a house, and we use that front loader every day and we dont want to miss it anymore. Meanwhile i built 4 useful loader tools and the list is still counting.
About wives understanding male need for tractor ****, 2 weeks ago i was at a job interview. I was alone with a guy, who was the company's production chief. He asked me (among other things) if i was married or having a girlfriend or single. I answered honestly that i dont have any relationship. Probably due to my geek-ish technology rant, he assumed smiling, women just cost money, dont they ? "
I replied that i personally, never really had those days of spending all money in the discos, and that all people have their priorities to spend their money on things... and that i wouldnt mind spending some to a wife and kids.
The guy smiled again... (and i am invited for a 2nd interview with 3 members of the staff.. )
....as a matter of fact, i just havent yet found the woman that has the same priorities as me....

I know this forum is for "Build it Yourself" items, typically implements, but I had to build a house for my future tractor a few years ago. I wanted a barn that looked like it could have come with the 100 year old farm. If you have a fast connection, check out the link below. If you are on dial-up forget it. I took a picture from about the same place after the work was done each day, then made a sorta time lapse movie out of them. Of all the things I've done, this was the biggest so far, and my dad and I were able to spend an entire summer building together ( an advantage of the education profession), and I guess the time spent with dad means more to me than the barn itself and I love the barn. (Tomorrow, dad an I are putting up more fences for the cows, goats, and llama.)
