Hey Folks
I just joined and am not aware of the exact protocol for posting yet.
I have a TC45D and I think I have a problem related to your discussion. I was in the woods and shifted into 4wd trying to get better traction pulling a tree. I could tell I had not done this smoothly and I bent the lever. Now when I go into 4wd and move the tractor it makes a clicking sound. The faster I go the faster the sound. I thought the driveshaft was hitting something but it isnt. I considered that bending the lever (I bent it back) might have caused the 4wd to not fully engage. I will also try disconnecting the linkage as you said. Any other ideas?
If I need to start a new discussion or something please let me know. I am not trying to just jump in out of turn.
Any help is appreciated.

PM, the driveshaft and front wheel differential turn all the time in both 2wd and 4wd. The difference is that when you have the lever engaged, the front wheels are driven by the transmission instead of just rolling along. If you only have noise when you attempt to engage 4wd, then it's probably a problem in the 4wd gearbox under the transmission. I would disconnect the linkage to the lever and see if I could get 4wd to engage just to check that the linkage wasn't still bent enough to not allow full engagement. If you have a loader on the front and can get both front wheels in the air and rotate one, it should aid getting the 4wd to shift without having the tractor running. You don't want to be under your tractor shifting levers when it is running. Once you have the 4wd shifted at the dropbox, you can start the tractor and see if you still have noise. If the noise persists, you'll have to drain the hydraulic fluid and remove the 4wd gearbox for repairs.

Also, :welcome: to TBN. If you post on a thread someone else posted, you problem is less likely to be seen. If you start your own thread, you will have the widest number of views and responses. Other than that, your protocol is fine. There are nice folks here. I started posting here almost 10 years ago and nobody has bitten off any of my body parts yet.;):D

Thanks jinman.
Great point about the driveshaft always turning. I guess I should have thought of that. Sometimes I can't see the forest for the trees. I will disconnect the linkage as you said. I am hoping it is the linkage but that is not my usual luck.
I will get back with you after I try that.
