You may be correct, but a 12 point 1.25 " socket fits like a glove. Its not just a sloppy fit, which is what you would expect if they are metric. 1.25" would be 31.75 mm so if they are 32 mm it would be a bit to small. 31 mm would be 1.22" which is lots of slop for a 1.25" socket, 15 mils on either side of the socket.

The NH tech I talked to who worked on the machine out at my place, appeared to also be under the impression it was a mixture.

I understand what you mean about the numbers. Metric bolts have a number like 8.8 on the head. That number plus the diameter and you can figure out the torque spec.
Of course, at least on my tractor, you need to scrap the paint off first.

I had taken a wheel of recently and some how had it in my head that it was 1.25" SAE. It is in fact metric.

I looked at the tractor again yesterday and I think the reason I came to the mixed SAE and metric conclusion, and perhaps others may do likewise, is the heavy coat of paint.
On some bolts the paint is very thick and while they may be metric, a metric wrench will not fit unless you do a good bit of scrapping. A 12pt SAE sometimes fits better.

When I was working on my hydrostatic transmission, I had to loosen some large bolts I assumed were metric. I asked my NH Service Mgr about a metric socket set and he said that on large bolts he always just used SAE sockets. I tried it and my sockets fit just fine. Metric sockets weren't needed.

The guages you are looking for are usually called Murphy switches or guages, Murphy being the manufacturer name. As for the socket sizes, some metric and standard sizes are close enough as you found out.
