TC18 to mow?

The BX is a little bit bigger then a lawn/garden tractor. But it is not a lawn/garden tractor, it's more then that...so let's not revisit that argument!

For <font color=red>Jim D.</font color=red>, the size and having a smaller FEL may be advantageous. He has an acre to deal with. The question "Does it make sense to own one for just mowing?" must be answered..is it worth spending the $10K to $12K to cut your acre? Well, if that's all Jim D. is going to do....not in my opinion.

For <font color=blue>Robert_in_NY</font color=blue>, the BX may also be a good fit for the acreage involved and the snowblowing requirements (that snowblower on a BX is going to add a few thousand to the price, by the way). This would be especially nice if some of the cost can be tax deductable (for the apartment usage).

You guys know your needs...just see if the BX may be a better fit for them.

As you can see from my signature, I run a <font color=green>Deere</font color=green>, so I'm not biased toward Kubota. Or any other major brand...I just got a good deal on the tractor.

Not sure where your nh dealer is getting a price of 10-12k$ for the tc 18, but here in florida, you can get a tc18 2wd, and mmm for 7700.00 or so. Sometimes they even offer real good financing on them.

I was talking about 4WD machines with FEL...and the price was for a BX2200 (FEL and MMM...the snowblower would have added 2 to 3 thousand).
The NH dealers around here (southern PA, northern MD)were considerably higher then $7700...even a used TC21D (4WD, FEL) was going for around $11500 or $12000. That was last year, late summer. Just a price the dealer e-mailed me...no negotiations. I'd already bought the Deere by that time.

The problem is the 2 wheel drive doesn't come with hydro, which is much nicer for mowing. The price I got was $11,700 for TC18 4wd with 60"mmm.

Resale must be a bit higher up north. But then that is normal I guess, even vehicles are a bit more expensive as you go north. I got what I sonsidder a great deal on my used 4wd 1920, $9500.00 wife wasn't so thrilled though../w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

The TC 18 would be ideal for around my place but the apartments I have more obstacles to worry about. Clearance is not a problem as if it will hit the tractor or my self it is gone, plain and simple. As for the FEL being a back saver that is true but I already have a loader on a Ford 4500 and a TN 65. The TC will be used only for mowing and maybe for blowing snow in the winter at the apartments. I have looked at garden tractors but they want so much for them it would be smarter to get a TC and if I ever decide to do more with it I can. Everything I do is tax deductable. I can run the TC thru the farm and not have to pay tax if I decide that I can justify it to the IRS. How tight does the TC 18/21's turn, do you have any problems in tight area's manuvering around trees and poles since the town has about 4 sign poles at the one apartment. Also what is the preferred mower deck rear discharge or side and what are the benifits of both? What is the top speed of a TC 18/21 as I would have to travel between apartments which is around 1/2 a mile and I don't want to be loading the machine on a trailer all the time to go to the other apartments which I would probally have to do with a zero turn. I am lucky that I have two great dealers I am friends with here and one sells NH's and the other sells Grasshoppers so I might have to just demo them both and see which handles better. I do like the looks of the TC and it will match the TN so that is pushing me towards the TC. I do like hearing from other people who have similar machines and wether they would do something differently or if they don't like something about it. Thanks for your input as it is appreciated.

Sorry Robert, I should have looked at your profile. Didn't realize you had the other Tractors. As for top speed its close to 12 MPH. I run my TC21 from my place to my Dad's in no time, and its about that far. As for turning, I really can't answer that yet. I still have my FEL on my Tractor. I can get close to stuff with the MMM, and if I had my choice I would have got a rear discharge. My wife uses the grass clipping for Compost. I push them in a row for her. I bought my TC21 for mowing mainly, but I had a chance to get the FEL, and I knew I'd use it. I'm very, very please with the way I can mow with it. I've got 3 acres here at my place, and 1 1/2 at my Dad's. Also help the neighbor with her grass sometimes. This tractor has not failed to amaze me. I hope I helped you. Good Luck. Kent

Doggman, Its hard to really say for sure, because of trimming, but I cut the bulk of the yard with the TC21, and It takes me an hour to do that. All tolled it takes less than two. It used to take me 3-3 1/2 hrs with my Sear 44", and WheelHorse 42". The larger Mower, and Hydro are priceless. Kent
