Was wondering if any tractor gurus could help me out ... will be mainly mowing approx 4 acres of flat land, 2 acres will be "lawn" the balance mainly thicker "thatch" .. I'm down to a 21D or a 4100, specs appear pretty close ..21 vs 20hp, 16 vs 17pto, but the thing I noticed was the total pump flow is 7.4gpm on the 4100 vs 6.75on the 21D but the Boomer has a lift capacity of 1265 vs 930 on the Deere ... since I'm thinking I'll get a belly mower, post hole digger, and a blade at first to do some landscaping , then throw a FEL on later ... is there something I'm missing here? Any comments on either of these two tractors would be greatly appreciated !!

From what you have described of the 2 tractors, your right about the similar specs. The greater lift capacity is very desirable. The flow (GPM) on the pumps is so close that differences in performance will be minimal. The NH has great ergonomics while the JD has what I consider a little nicer engine manufactuer. Thats not to say NH is bad, I just like Yanmar diesels better then Shibura(sp?) I think your choice, while important to you, will be correct either way you go. By the way, lift capacity can be affected in so many ways. Where the lift is taken from is obviously important. But bear in mind that the reach, highest loader height, etc. all play a part in the ultimate lift ability of the loader. Approach that spec. with some room for adjustment in your final decision. jpelzel,I looked at both before I bought the TC21D.The thing I liked about the 4100 was the breaks being on the left side.So you could break steer while using the go pedal(on HST model). But I heard the 4100 has an aluminium rear end(don't know if its true)but it wasn't something I would like.I'm just picky I guess.I went with the tc21d because here in Bama I got a better price for the tc21d than the 4100 about 2500 less. The hitch lift capacity was deffinetly one of the main reasons as well.I don't mind the differenc in pump capacity and I have a very steep hill ( at least 30%) that I cut with a 4' old beater heavy(thing must way 400lb) duty roto cutter.(yes folks I back up and down it,not side to side)I rarely bog down the tractor.I don't think you would be dissapionted with either. But in my case sence the wife liked it best of the big 3 we went with it.After test driving all 3 she felt more secure on the TC21D and we both liked the over all lay outbetter..Since she will be on it often that was also a (the main, who are we kidding) factor.I cut the pasture the 1st time the serieca (<- sure its spelled wrong) ,briars, hay and who knows what was easily 4'to 5' tall and very thick.Terrain kinda rough with many shallow run off ditches...and some large ones.I had no problems just took it easy and enjoyed the ride...Total of about 7 acres out of 8.5....Great machine have had no complaints about the performence over all...Do whish the brakes were on the left it would be nice when I'm in a tight spot in the few woods I do have to be able to brake steer a bit more.See,when you have the cruise on and push the left brake the cruise cuts out.../w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif...It should at least take both brakes like on the Kubota...Good luck in your choice...

I think if you look at your TC21's xmission you'll see that the case is cast aluminum, the axle housings bolted to either side are cast iron though. I am sure this is also the "case" with the 4100 if I remember durring my shopping days last year.

I looked at JD and kabota before i bought a NH TC21D. JD here was more money and my father in law has one and it is nothing but trouble. And seeing how i work on his stuff i see a big diff in the quality of workmanship in the two. Plus no place where i live could i buy a JD tax free. I could a NH. I have the 54" FEL and 60" midmont mower. They both work great. The mower mows great. The loader has all kinds of balls. I have 52 hours on it and so far everything works great. Im so glad i went with NH I mow 4 1/2 achers and have been clearing woods and brush. It plows through it all so far. Ive dragged some pretty good trees out of my woods with turf tires also. Good luck in your choice...save yourself some grief and get BLUE.../w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif..Larry
