First, I called on the in-house German. She says that Pewag is pronounced "Pay-vog" which is good because Pee-wag just wasn't working.
Based on pekabu's comments I then opted to call in another in-house expert. Fortunately I have a 13 year old in the house and as luck would have it, 13 is just about the perfect age for an in house expert. Shockingly knowledgable on just about every subject I was sure tractors must be in there somewhere too ...and of course, they were.

I have a JD 4115 with 12-16.5 R4s. In the summer they are good for what I do, but in the winter on ice they are useless. I looked at all types of chains and prices, and settled on the ladder type from tirechains.com. I had them make me a special set with v-grip cross chains every other link. It rides smooth and has great traction. I had to do some cutting and splicing to make them fit better, but it was no problem. I think I paid a bit over $200 for them, and let me tell you they are heavy duty. I'm not sure how the clearence is on your tractor, but I took mine down the road in high gear with no problem. Could easily be for me /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I'm a man of limited skills when it comes to tools and the like. Last time I used a torch I even wound up bleeding from the back of my head (long story). Thanks for the comments though and that looks like a sweet set of chains.
Of the few things I know that I'd like to have in a chain, one of them is a serious pattern of links connecting between cross chains. The reason is that my driveway has quite a slope to it and if I ever broke loose sideways (the angle is compound) I'd stop rolling quite a ways down the hill or at the first tree that was big enough to stop me and a tractor.
Thought long and hard about a ladder design but w/out the chance to really try any I was afraid to make the choice. Your design looks a lot better than I envisioned ladders on R4's might work. Nice job /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I also have a steep driveway, and about mid winter its like plowing a bobsled run. I have not had any problem with side to side movement with these chains. I know the chains you are looking at are very good, cause I wanted them to. I could not bring myself to spend that much money, so I went with the ones I have now. I had a set of Duro-Grip chains from tirechains.com. They had a cross pattern but they road like I had square tires. I thought my FEL would shake off from the rough ride.
