Having had 3 Ford/NH tractors in the last 15 years, and living in Mass/conn where it gets cold, I think I speak from experience. I have never used a block heater, the machines have all be kept out in the cold and they all started down to at least 32 degrees with out using the glow plugs. Aldo even when cold, the throtle response is immediate. There must be something wrong, either with your tractor or the fuel. Maybe when the fuel was drained not all of it was removed. I read all of these reports about how hard some machines are to start and I consider myself lucky.

A quote from my TC29D operator's manual. "Before starting a cold engine, the precombustion chambers must be heated." It then goes on to explain how to do just that. Now the question is - what is a "cold engine"? In the mountains of New Hampshire almost any time of the year, if it isn't running now, it's probably cold.

For the sake of your engine and battery, use the cold start assist if it gets below 35°. 35° is a somewhat arbitrary number, but it's what I use.

The engines start so much easier, which gets that oil flowing faster.
