TC30 stalls when gear or brake touched

The advice these people are giving here is good. When a seat switch starts to go, it can cause all manner of weird-appearing problems. They go often, too, because they are prone to getting wet from condensation or whatever, and then corroding. Whenever there is a problem like the one mentioned in this thread, it's best to go after that seat switch first. It's a very common source of problems on all kinds of equipment.

I must agree with you! IMO, all of the symptoms scream seat switch. Kate, I/we could be wrong, but that's certainly where I would start.....first!

This thread reminds me of any number of truck drivers that have asked me directions to their next stop, then proceeeded to argue with the response. I tend to lose interest rather quickly.

Perhaps why you're a technician instead of in customer service?;)

Maybe, but for the last couple years I have been behind the parts counter almost exclusively and serve as the parts manager at our small dealership. That's pretty much the essence of customer service. I refuse to argue with folks that don't like the answers I give. It's part of the 'customer is always right' mantra. If at this point Kate figures that her seat switch circuit isn't faulty even though she hasn't indicated that she has gone to the effort to tip the seat up and look at it, there's nothing more I have to offer. I have given the best advise I could, and others seem to be thinking along the same lines. I could be wrong, but if so I should be proven wrong, not just dismissed out of hand without any troubleshooting.

I think it's unusual to see someone behind the parts counter who was also a tech for so many years. Even so, face-to-face advice at a place like a dealership does seem to add a lot of credibility to a person's response. Here on TBN you have to sort through lots of seemingly expert advice to find the really good advice based on symptoms and logic. Not everybody will take the time to check the credentials of the poster and may not know that they are getting expert advice. Those of us who know you also know that you are normally spot-on with your analysis/advice.

True. I am lucky to have been in a situation where I could make the transition from a physically demanding occupation to one much less so. And the challenge of learning the business of stocking and selling parts has been quite interesting.

Kate, the seat switch being damaged can be from many reasons and not just due to the operator being a lightweight. Believe me, I have a very LARGE basis for my observations on my own tractor. More likely is the shifting position of your weight also shifts the switch slightly and it momentarily loses contact. The easy way to prove it's the switch is with a jumper bypass, but there is absolutely nothing on the brake pedals that is electrical to cause a problem. Your parking brake lever has a switch, but the brake pedals don't unless you have an HST with cruise control. In that case, the brake pedals will de-energize the cruise magnet, but that circuit is completely isolated from anything that would kill the engine. So I am firmly on the same team as RickB in saying it's your seat switch.

BTW: On my tractor, the parking brake has to be engaged AND the shift lever in Neutral for the engine to stay running when the operator leaves the seat. I think yours is the same. The parking brake will not bypass the safety if the transmission is out of neutral.

Thanks jinman, that makes sense.

I am absolutely not dismissing the fact that it may be related to the seat switch and I truly do appreciate the advice - any advice! I have tried to trace the wiring to make sure that there are no obvious bare wires or loose connections. I have also had my husband hold down the back of the seat while I try to go through the same motions. If it is related to the seat switch, and it may well be, it's related to the movement of the other gears etc as opposed to my weight in the seat.

My initial response back was merely to emphasize that it's not related purely to my weight, the fact that I am moving or the fact that I may be new to the tractor.

Can someone tell me how do do a jumper bypass on the seat switch please?

I've got to admit, you really had me fooled. Glad to hear you are starting to do some real troubleshooting.
