Besides a little more horsepower and some cosmetic differences, what sets the newer TC34 apart from the older TC33? I have an opportunity to buy a new TC33 for a great price.

i thought they just fudged the numbers on the paperwork a bit to make it a 34hp instead of 33....

Actually the TC34 is 35HP. :)

From having looked extensively at the TC33, and having bought a TC34, I think the biggest difference is the 34 has a 1.65 liter engine versus the 1.5 liter on the 33. Also, the engine speed at rated power is 200 RPM lower. Other than that, I think the TC34 is basically the newest version of the TC33, but with some extra torque. I can't imagine you would go wrong with a great deal on a TC33.

Ditto what MJC said. The TC34 has the same engine as the larger TC35, and you dont have to drive both (34/35) long to feel the power-to-weight difference. That said, the 33 appears to be very capable even with the smaller engine and you should be able to get a very deal on a TC33 as a result of the model change.

I think it would be very hard to tell the difference when using two tractors within 1 or 2 horsepower. I doubt that the ratings are even that accurate.

aggc, If you have a great deal on a 33, then buy it. I haven't found anything my 30 can't do. And I certainly haven't found anything my brother's 33 can't do. Pulled a 5500 lb duel axle spreader all around a plowed field with the 33 running R4 tires. It's got plenty of power, comforts, etc. GO GET'ER!

They also beefed up the front axle on the TC34 to support the higher lift capacity loader (14 LA)

Are the new loaders different, then? My DX29 has the Case loader equivalent to the 14LA, unless my memory is off. I'm pretty sure it's the DX114 loader or something like that -- same thing except in red. I didn't think they had changed the loaders at all with the bigger numbers on the tractors.

I don't know the Case model numbers, but for New Holland, the TC33 and TC33D used the old 7308 loader (capacity around 800#, IIRC). With the TC33A and TC33DA they switched to the new 14LA loader (supersteer models used a different loader, I believe). It was with these models that teh front axle was beefed up. As far as I know, the new TC34 uses the same 14LA loader.

So I misspoke a bit... When comparing a TC33 or TC33D to a TC34, there is a significant difference in the loaders. When comparing a TC33A or TC33DA to a TC34, I believe the loader and lift capacity are the same. (unfortunately, I don't have my brochures available to check this).

My loader is an LX114. Specs with a 68", 265 lb bucket, from the manual -- Lift capacity at maximum height - Pin, 1461 lb. 500 mm forward, 835 lb.
Lift capacity to 1.5 m - Pin, 1861 lb 500 mm forward, 1113 lb.
Breakout force at pin - 3071 lb. 500 mm forward, 1906 lb.

If your information is correct, I'm pretty happy I got the Case rather than the NH back in spring. I'm pretty sure the only differences were in the paint and the lights, not the loaders.

I have a 60" QA bucket, which I presume is a bit lighter than the 68" heavy duty material bucket specs are for.

The new Holland and Case loaders for the class II Cuts changed at the same time (I just don't happen to remember exactly when that time was), so that would not have been a factor in choosing one over the other.
