My 2003 Tractor got totaled this past week. Looks like the transmission housing is broke in half. Looked fairly ok till tried to load onto tow truck and then tore apart in middle. Anybody ever fixed something like this. Wondering if it’s worth buying form the insurance company? Any idea what its worth?

KenneCan sad tractor owner :(

Were you doing something at the time that caused the damage? Or do you think this was a freak occurrence?

Sorry you had a problem.

Need more pictures of the failed case to see where the failure happened. Odds are it can be fixed but at what price... From looking at the picture you posted, did that pile of trees fall back and hit the tractor when you were driving by it? Ony 2 ways a tractor can break in half like that. Clutch blowing up (this one I know 1st hand) or an outside force causing to much pressure on the case (in a bind) and the end result is the case breaking at the point where the force/binding is taking place.

An 18 wheeler rolled over and dumped its load on me and the tractor while mowing by the road. You can’t see it but the back three point hookup is destroyed along with both fenders and multiple hydraulic hoses and electrical wires ripped apart. The left rear wheel is gone and passably the wheel housing. 400 hours. Can’t discuss accident at this time but will get back with more photos and details later.

I was thinking of hanging on to it for spare parts and such.

WOW! Did you get hurt at all in this? Sounds very scary. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

With that much damage, if it were me, I think I would let the insurance company total it out. Its a shame. Looks like its in real good shape, but, with all the external damage, no telling what the insides look like as far as parts. Would not spend a lot on it if they were to sell it back. Not sure how much spare part usage you could get out of it.

I have refrained from posting "hearsay"- especially negative stuff about a brand that I don't own. But in light of this post, I will pass along what I was told by a trusted friend who owns several NH tractors.

Again, take this for what it is... a second-hand story.

The guy who cuts & bales our land owns an '04 TC40D. He came a few days ago to pick up the bales. Last year he used the NH but this year he brought his old MF ag tractor. Knowing how much he loves his TC40, I asked why he didn't bring it to load the hay.

He said that he was at the NH dealer picking up some baler parts and they told him to NOT use the TC40 to load bales. According to him, they had 6 TCs in their shop that had split in half after the loader bracket (sub-frame?) broke and all the stress was transferred to the engine/tranny coupling.

The supposed fix is to strengthen the current bracket and add a second attachment point to the frame. He said he would not be using the loader to move bales until he could get this enhancement done--- after hay season.

Obviously not what happened here, but still might be worth noting.

There's no connection between having a trailer load dumped on a TC33D (Class II) and breaking it in half and your story about TC40Ds (Class III) breaking in half when used to load hay bales. Different class Boomers, different hydraulic systems, different loaders.

I think he's trying to point out that some NH's might have weak cases for certian type of jobs as stated by an unnamed dealer.

That was the way I took it also. But, I have been wrong before.
