TC33D Glow Plug Issue

I'd try replacing the ignition switch first. If that doesn't fix it, try the glow plug timer. Here's some helpful information if you end up replacing the timer....

My dealer had trouble finding the correct part and sold me the wrong thing on the first try. The actual part label says - "Lamp Timer", the package calls it a "Glow Controller" the NH part system calls it a "Controller Glow Plug" and the owners manual calls it a "Glow Plug Timer Relay" Since different people call it different things it was hard to find someone that could successfully look the part up.

The CNH part number is 83965764, however the dealer may only have the alternate part number SBA385870300.

Tonight I came home to mow. When I tried to start the tractor the light came on for about a second. I let it go for another 4-5 to see if the light was just the issue. I then turned it over and it took a few seconds to start. It acted like the glow plugs were not on long enough to have it start like it should.

I then mowed for about and hour. Shut the tractor off for a minute. Turned the ignition switch to acc and the light came on for 5 seconds and then started like it should.

Not sure if this helps in determining the problem.

Thanks everyone for your help...I will keep you posted.

Bob if you were fortunate enough to find a TBN member with the repair manuals for your model TC33D it would explain how to troubleshoot your timer. I'm afraid that my Class III manual wouldn't be near the same, sorry.

The problem appears to be temperature related. If it is a nice warm day, the glow plug light works great. When it is colder or damper, it starts to malfunction again. Not sure if this makes it easier to trouble shoot or not.

Intermitant problems are tuff to trouble shoot. Moisture related, I would say that its the timer. Remove it and make sure connections are all clean and add some dielectric grease to terminals and reconnect. Then remove the ignition switch. Disconnect all wires ( make written diagram so you will remember) and work switch in your hand. Does it "feel" good. Then bench test it with a meter watching all terminals are receiving connections as key is turned. Reconnect the switch. If problem presists; replace one item at a time. If you have luck like me, you will replace the wrong part first. Make sure all wiring between ignition switch and glow plug tmer looks and feels good; could be an internal wire break in the harness.
Good luck
