TC33D Rear PTO Shifter

Ok, the spring replacement completely fixed my problem. Thanks to Jmofr, I am all set! It shifts easily now, no more bending the pto lever. As for replacement, it took me less than 5 minutes. You don't have to take the rear wheel off or anything. Just unscrew the little plug, replace the spring, back in with the plug and you are in business! Wish I would have known this 3 years ago!!!

piece of cake left side set the parking brake
Crawl under with a 19mm socket 3 inch extention and a rachet handle.
It's on the lower side of the transmission ,the socket just makes it. Looks like a nut between all the linkages . A good pull on the rachet handle.
THe Cap comes off the spring is sticking out, Just enough oil so you can drop the wrench on your face, ask me how I know. Watch for the gasket , may not come off with the Cap . Pull out the spring. I crawled out to compare the two springs and make sure they were different . The new one is longer but softer. Push the spring in the hole and start the capwith the gasket. This is the hardest part. You can not get your fingers in there ( unless you take of some linkage and I hate taking off more than I have to , I forget how to put it back)
I started the cap with the socket but be really sensitive to the turns, you do not want to cross thread this thing. Tighten it down . Thats it. What a difference. Save the old spring, maybe something will wear in someday and it won't stay detented. then you can swap them again.

Jmofr,

Another successful spring change.
Thanks for that info it solved my problem with the rear PTO, New Holland should make this change it would help with sales.

I was told it's HST thing when I spoke with NH "just move your loader then move the lever for rear PTO/mid/gear change"

does anyone else have issues changing gears from neutral to either 1,2 or 3?
Hard to shift -I still have to release pressure with the loader to shift once in awhile.

thanks for the instructions on the how to.

They sure are selling springs now at New Holland. What's next for our tractors?

I had the same problems with my PTO shifting hard. After reading all the postings about the spring, I took my spring out to look at it. It was 1.480 inches long and real stiff. From reading what others said about the new spring being a bit weaker, I figured I had nothing to loose, so I ground off about .080 inches making it 1.400 inches long, figuring that would make the spring a little weaker. It worked like a charm. Totally fixed my PTO shifting problem. Thanks to all who posted.
