2004 NH TC33DA
A question for those with a TC33 or a repair manual: What should the idle speed be for a 2004 TC33? I ask since there have been several discussions of starting RPMs and I got to experimenting.

When I move the engine speed lever down to the bottom of the slot in the dash, my idle speed will only go down to 1,100 RPMs. This seems to me to be high but I do not know. Is it too high or OK?

If it is too high how big of a job is it to adjust. I assume that there is a cable adjustment at the bottom of the lever. Can anyone verify?

Thanks for the responses.

I have a NH TC29DA. I generally start my tractor at ~1500RPM, and let it idle for a minute or two. After I "work" the tractor I "rpm" down to ~1000rpm to let everyting settle down and "cool" off. I believe that the lowest rpm the tractor seems to handle is 900rpms ~<1000 rpm's. Jay

I don't have a TC33DA repair manual, but the repair manual for my TC18 lists the low idle speed RPM as 1100-1200 and high idle speed to be 2750-2800. Hope this helps.

The manual for the earlier TC33D shows the low idle speed of 1000 rpm, high idle speed at 3040 rpm and rated speed at 2800 rpm, this is with the 1.5 liter engine. Yours is probably not much different if any.
Also, when they say high idle speed, I'd say wide open throttle.
Just my guess thou.

Jay,

I start mine at about 1350 to 1400 rpms. Seems to be a good starting point. Like you I also let it warm up and go back to 1100 rpms (in my case) to cool down.

Thanks

Guy,

As Tazz noted the 33 is real close. Thanks.

Tazz,

My guess is that it is the same engine with the same specs. It seams that mine is in line with normal. I may try to adjust it to 1000 rpm's the next time I have some time and want to tinker. Thanks for the info.

to add another data point

my TC33 goes to about 900 rpm (just under the 1000 point) seems to start fine there. IT likes to run at about 1500-1800 ;) and seems like its screemin at 2500.. 540 speed

Schmism, that is exactly how my TC33D is. And, that is the reason why I mow with my 72 in mower, at about 21 to 22 hundred RPM because it is screaming at 2500+.

Derek:

This thread made me curious so I pulled out my tractor manual and looked up the starting procedures. The manual states that the hand throttle should be positioned forward 1/4 - 1/3 open. It appears we are starting the tractors appropriately. Jay

My TN70A also says 1/2 throttle. I never start at half throttle. Starts first crank at idle, 700 rpms. I must wait until winter in Wisconsin to see if idle works. I have never figured out why 1/2 throttle.
