Many thanks to PineRidge. He did'nt realize it at the time but he was helping out more than one guy. Those pics showing location of glow plug timer were invaluable. Finally got around to replacing the timer & it works like a charm. A bit steep ($70 Canadian) for the timer but its worth it with this cold weather we have been getting up here. Don't even need block heater although I have one connected. Just fires right up after glow plugs time out. :)

Thanks Again,

Vic

Vic glad to be of help. Our 40D refused to start once the weather turned cold until I finally made time to replace the timer. It now starts as it did when new.

Good luck to you.

To all, thanks for the discussion and helpful information. My TC40DA glow plug light was sporatically coming on during operation and this post prompted me to replace the timer. Problem cured! The attachments that Pineridge posted were extremely helpful.
Dealer had part in stock $61. 13mm and 8mm sockets w/long extensions and 20 minutes time (took the longest to figure out how to release the clip holding the connector into the timer with out breaking it)

Thanks again!!!!!!!

Stupid question of the day
Anyone know why the deluxe tractor glow plug timer times out in 5 or 6 seconds, and the ecomony models go 10 or 11 seconds? Aren't the deluxe and economy models just a trim level apart? I don't know the answer, just read about it in the first attatchment from Pineridge's post.

I guess NH figured time is a premium and the deluxe model should do things quicker. The deluxe model uses a quick heating glow plug (Y-701RS) while the economy tractors use a slower glow plug (Y-107V). Therefore, the timer is shorter for the deluxe model. Since it seems that deluxe model timers fail more than economy model timers, I guess NH also figures deluxe owners have more money to spend on repair parts.;)
