Ya I wasn't sure, it was just a shot in the dark. I appreciat the manual jim, it is informative. That did help. So one last question then how is the injection pump timed on this thing? is it driven directly off the camshaft? in other words does it have a lobe on the shaft for each injector becouse the injection pump is different then any other I have seen, it's built into the engine case. It looks like it is installed directly over the cam and I don't see how it would have a gear on the front of it? Just curious
Thank you all for your help and insight
Sonny :)

Hi sonnyc, I'm not familuar with these small tractors, but, on most diesels, that I've worked on , if the fuel return line gets pluged, pinched, bent, or such, it can cause your problems. If you can, blow in to the return line, [if so equipped] to see if there is a restriction. It should be verry easy to blow.

Yes, the injection pump sits down into the block and is driven directly by the camshaft through a CTD (Compact Timing Device). In order to change injection pump timing, the whole injection pump has to be removed from the engine and shims added or removed around the base of the pump. Each shim of approx. 0.004" is equal to 1 degree of pump timing. Adding shims retards and removing shims advances timing.

Let me go on record as saying that I strongly suggest against doing this. The full adjustment and timing of your engine is far beyond a forum discussion; especially in the general forums here. The fact that your tractor ran well before and suddenly had problems points squarely to a fuel delivery problem since each cylinder has its own CTD and it is unlikely they would have all changed at the same time without the injector pump becoming loosened in its mounting. I believe your problem is fuel delivery restriction or air getting sucked into the fuel lines. I just don't see injector timing changing without other signs being obvious.

I agree with you Jim, I was wondering how it was timed so I could decide if that was the issue or not. On some of the older models of tractors they were timed by a gear that could be rotated. If this was the case I figured the bolts could of came loose and caused this. But the way this is timed abviously wouldn't just change then. I tend to agree that it is fuel dilivery, or air getting in to the lines. But I am left with nothing else then the injection pump being the cause or being bad, becouse of the supply being consistant and since it is obvious that all four cyl. must be affected, (this being an assumption that might be based on false reasoning) then it would have to be inside the injection pump or pre injection pump. And since the pre injection pump seems to check out as far as I could see, no air at bleed screw on injection pump and psi staying consistant on the pump as it is reved showing me that it is not starving or at least demanding more. As in it doesn't drop out.
I may end up going to a injection pump speciallist that is near here. about and hour and half away and letting him see what he thinks with it.
Am I missing anything that you can tell? :) before I do this anyway.
Thanks again
Sonny

I just saw your reply david and I will try this with the return lines. It does have them built between the 4 injectors leading back to the injection pump. I will see how easy it is to blow thru them. Thanks for this bit of insight. :)

My tc30da is having the same problem. It is currently in the shop for repair. I will let you all know what is found.
