Andy, I think I could make the argument that a gear tractor is more prone to engine lugging than a hydro and that would lead to premature failure. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I just don't think any of us have the 10 or 15 years with a specific model to be able to make that kind of statement. I think a properly maintained gear or hydro tractor will last a very, very long time.

If you ever plan to add a grapple to your FEL, you might use the third remote or you might opt for a diverter on the FEL curl circuit. I bought three remotes because they were around $250 each. With the new pricing, I'd let them keep the third remote and go for the diverter. You can pay for the diverter and hoses for $500.

Here's an idea for a bumper sticker for us hydro guys:

That's Great, Jim!! You made my day!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'll likely go hydro, but I'm going to test drive both - actually I already drove the hydro. Just need to try a SS. What a great reason to go back to the delaership! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

While you're at the dealer get a price on a spare hydro filter, they like to blow off in winter, at 10 degrees, and 30 inches of snow to plow. Grab a few 5 gallon pails of hydro fluid also, cause you will pump about 10 gallons on the ground before you realize what happen. Get it all at once after buying you hydro tranny tractor, saves a trip to the dealer in the dead of winter, with a blizzard blowing in Butler County. Icy, and inpassable roads and all that winter wonderland stuff going on. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You might run it at 2000 rpm, no big deal. the SS would require 2000 rpm as well when doing any work. Go for the tranny that meets your needs. The motor will do fine. Just change the oil and filter more often if you are concerned.

The supersteer option does add some increased maneuverability for the tractor, but does come at a cost. Supersteer causes a paradoxical motion of the tractor FEL when turning the steering wheel at rest. This is best learned by trying out a SS tractor with a FEL, and I would not recommend purchasing a SS tractor without doing so.
