tc45 vs jd4320 which one to buy

I made the mistake of buying too small of a tractor, ( jd 4310). I went from an older Massey 235 with no frills to the newer cut style tractor. I am going to take the hit and trade in the jd 4310 for either a tc 45 or jd 4320. Haven't pinned down either dealer on a firm price yet. I don't know much about the nh 3 cyl. diesel. The deere is a turbo 4 cyl. My old Massey has the 3 cyl perkins that has plenty of power so no. of cyls. is not a deal breaker. Who makes the NH diesel?

I don't own a NH TC, but the diesel is a 4 cylinder if memory serves me right. It is a Shibaru? It is a very smooth 4 cyl.

Got altitude (no location info in your profile)? Get TURBO!!!

Otherwise, you will loose 3% of your HP per 1000 feet of elevation for any naturally aspirated motor.

Example: the 38 PTO HP naturally aspirated TC45DA at 7500' (my elevation) is effectively a 29.5 PTO HP tractor. The 40 PTO HP turbo charged 4320 is still a 40 PTO HP tractor at 7500'! Yes, that means the 35 PTO HP turbo charged 4120 easily out powers the TC45D at my elevation.

BTW, if you bought "to small" before, why not take advantage of the 50 PTO HP turbo charged 4720? At least that way you know you've pretty much bought the most HP available in a CUT class tractor today. No "should have bought more HP" buyer's remorse that way. Just a thought...

Also BTW, I LIKE the TC45DA. Almost bought a TC45D 3 years ago. But, back then the Deere CUTS were not turbo charged, so they didn't have a big elevation HP advantage. Not true today.

I would go out and try them both out. Which one do you like the best. How does the controls fit you. Ease of operation etc etc. Of the two dealers who do you think is going to treat you the best. If the John Deere dealer was good on the last one maybe he gets a few more points. But both tractors are good tractors and will serve you well.

Visability off of the NH in far better then the JD. Also if you get a hydro the rabbit /turtle function avoids the need to down shift. The NH is very quiet compared to the JD.
I faced the same thing a few yrs back coming out of a TC35- ended up w/ a 4720. I needed the power so I picked Deere- the TC 45 is a great unit.

I live in Texas so elevation is not a problem. Looking at the specs on the jd 4/20 series, there is not any difference in the four except in hp ratings. At my dealer there is a $1,500.00 jump everytime you move up, (4120 to 4320 etc.)

I am not a diesel mechanic but I'm thinking the only difference between the 4120 and the 4720 besides several thousand dollars must be in the delivery of the fuel somehow if the engines are the same.

Any mechanics out there please add some input to this forum.
