/w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif Here's how that conversation will probably go...

Dave:
Hey Mom. Look at my new tractor.
Mom:
Oh Dave! It's pretty, but you already broke it. Shame on you!
Dave:
No Mom, the front wheels are supposed to be that way. Really!
Mom:
DAVE! Didn't I teach you to never fib to me? Anyone can see the front wheels are broken. What kind of dope do you think I am?
Dave:
Oh Mom, I just wanted to show you my new tractor.
Mom:
Well, the next time you show me something you better do it before you break it.
Dave:
Yes, Mom...(walks away mumbling to himself)

You know, Supersteer is a fantastic piece of engineering, but I always do a double-take when I see it maxed out in one direction. Really, I hope your conversation with you Mom goes better than my little scenario. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Jim,

She doesn't know what it is or that it even exists!

Here's how that conversation will probably go...

Mom had an engineering major in college, before dropping out to get her MRS. Consequently the conversation will probably go more like:

Dave:
Mom, did you see the new tractor?
Mom:
Of course I have! You've had it for over a year! What reason do you have for asking?
Dave:
excitedly Did you notice that it has "supersteer"?
Mom:
Oh, thats right! Your old 9N did not have "power steering". And with the weight of the front bucket that probably comes in handy, doesn't it?
Dave
Mom, not "power steering", but "supersteer".
Mom:
Oh, is that some enhanced and relabeled form of power steering?
Dave:
No, its a unique way of twisting the front axle in conjuction with the wheels to enable a sharper turn, without having to use the left and right wheel brakes.
Mom:
Oh, so you don't need separate wheel brakes anymore? Is that a cost savings? Is it a solid single axle? Why don't they have independent suspension? And how is the axle articulated?
Dave:
Ummm.... Hey Mom, maybe it would just be easier to show you. Do you want to come outside now to see it?

A few minutes later, Mom would be on the tractor in the driveway. Show her the HST pedals and how the loader joystick works, then have her drive forward and around the driveway turning this way and that way, left and right, making 1080 degree turns.

Mom:
Can I use the bucket to move some of those woodchips sitting next to the driveway over to the flower garden? The wheel barrel has a flat.
Dave:
Sure Mom, have at it!
20 minutes later Dave suddenly realizes the error of his ways. Mom is having too much fun, won't give the tractor up. She's moving piles of chips and mulch, moving piles of leftover landscaping stones to new project areas...
Dave
MOM! OH MOM! Doggone it! I knew I should have gotten one of those Pro-Ears headsets. She can't hear me! MOM! HEY MOM! LEMME HAVE MY TRACTOR BACK. MOMMM....

On second thought maybe Mom really doesn't need to understand supersteer /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
