I have all sorts of pipe dope on the place, locative, hardening, non-hardening, PTFE containing, even PTFE tape. They all have their place.
My tractor is 100% hydraulic. Most of the connections are JIC 37 degree that are dry seal, but the big ones are NPT, and the manufacturer recommends PTFE tape for the NPT joints.
