Temperature Check

50 today. But its been colder already. On a posotive note the Ducks have arrived!!!! Season opened today and my dads creek is full of Mallards and Blacks!!!

Duck hunting is the greatest gun sport going.

You live in a great flyway there in Maryland. I have over 20 years experience hunting the coast and the inland marshes here in Maine, though my excitement for the sport is waneing.

Good for the dogs too. They love it.

Have a blast....

On average we have 48 days when the temperature gets below 0 (F). This fall we have had 8 days when the temperature got below 0. Last night was the coldest at -13 F.

Right now at 1:23 AM it is + 23 F, so it does jump around. It hasn't been above freezing for over two weeks and it isn't expected to in the next week or so.

You will not have to worry about Mud!! And them combines have heaters these days!

Do you dry the grain or is it going to feed right away?:D

D7E : you better get to it,....(at least -5 is corn-combining weather here, doesn't stick or get gummy). (generally at 2 AM)

Merry Christmas out there!

Funny you mention that time, that's when the local vineyards collect the last grapes of the season for their ice wine. I don't like the stuff myself, much too sweet, but they generally collect the grapes in the middle of the night once the temps get below -8*C.

Mud has'nt been an issue this fall. I think we had the dryest fall for 3-4 years but a wet spring and late planting followed by a cool summer has led to the late harvest.
We don't feed any livestock and generally we haul to a custom dryer to find one big enought to keep up with the combines.
We wont worry about drying the corn for a while as it's frozen good and should store safeley for a while.
Drying might be a slow and costly job this year as the moisture was very high before freeze.

Great way to start the day today we are at +5 and it is 5:50 in the morning. But what can you expect other then a heat wave when a big storm is to your south.
