Temperature gage going/gone south

What about installing a "T" fitting and using the sender and a bulb gauge that is mounted under the dash or somewhere where it isn't extremly obvious.

I have had this problem ad-infinitum. Replace the thing and in two months it is out again. I think the moisture has something to do with it. If you notice and I am sure you did, there are a lot of resistors, capacitors, diodes etc. So it may well be there are some things going on with those. I have replaced my gauge about three times and the instrument cluster once. NH should have a fix for this but I won't hold my breath. All I can say is that I have a very nice dealer that works with me. Seriously, I am thinking of just getting a weather resistant gauge set and mounting it where it can be seen, esthetics are out the door at this point for me. Other than this problem I love the tractor.

This is the first time I've had trouble with the temperature gage in the 5-1/2 years I've owned the tractor. My tach and fuel gage sometimes will not work, but a light thump on the face of the instrument panel brings them to life. They have never failed to work.

I noticed several resistors and a couple of diodes on the circuit board below the gage, but no capacitors anywhere that I saw. The meter movement, itself, has a 56 ohm precision resistor you can see in my last photo where I disassembled it. I didn't see anything that looked bad or burned.

I'd be very frustrated if I had the problems you've had. How about your indicator lights and PTO 540 and 600 lamps? I've never had a failure of any of these and all those functions are part of the tachometer electronics.

Soundguy, that is a plausible solution. It seems as though all other gauges work properly. The only possible exception could be the PTO speed light, which may be some calibration problem. We discussed that in another thread. I have given that some thought. However, if a suitable panel could be plumbed in I would not have any problem with that either. I can do that sort of thing. Just wish NH would come up with some kind of fix so that all of us would not have to fool away our time with the problem. In searching the threads on here it seems to be a common problem with NH. Don't get me wrong, I really like the tractor and am pround of it. It will probably be the last one I will ever get of any brand.

I see you were able to purchase just one of the parts for the instrument cluster. Can you please tell me who to contact in order to purchase just the hour meter.

Thank you

John

John, I'm sorry to tell you, but the hourmeter is not sold separately. Some have had success cleaning the mechanism and others have rebuilt/improved the electronics.
