Ten Hours till Retirement

Congratulations, I can't imagine what it feels like but it has to be great. Has it sunk in yet or does it feel like you are on vacation?

Congratulations on your retirement. I too work 12 hr shifts, although only 4 days a week, not rotating. I truly understand about dealing with nasty chemicals, LOTO and the paperwork that goes with it before doing any work. My company announced in Sept that our plant was closing its doors in Dec 2014. I will be 60 then, my coworkers are scrambling to find new jobs but I am in good enough financial shape that I am just going to retire at that point... I can't wait. I could transfer to the plant in Arizona but I have no interest in moving again. I think it is nice that they gave us so much notice, but it makes it hard to care about doing one's job.

When I worked days I got up a 3:45am. Could have slept till 4am but I don't like to have to rush around to get things ready. I'm actually getting up at 5:30am now. Never have been able to sleep late. The main thing is that I'm on a regular schedule now and getting at least 8 hours sleep. I get up, drink coffee and read the paper and when it gets light enough I go check the cows. Then I head to the gym to walk and work out with weights. I'm hoping that with a regular schedule and working out I'll trim up.

Good luck with it all. I retired last April. I have ALWAYS been an early riser. Kids would come to visit, I would be first up and keep the grandkids busy so mommie and daddy could get a little sleep. Nowadays, my daughter, my wife and others CANNOT believe that I sleep later than the grandkids. Now that is not real late, as those kids are up and ready to go when they are here at the lake.

Enjoy!!

Congrats! Great that you are healthy and can retire.. many will never be able to retire after the last recession.

I need to start thinking about retirement... I have had some health problems that is making me think I need to retire in the next 5 years if I am going to enjoy any of it.
