Submarines have been powered by batteries (diesel electric) from before when most people on these forums were born.

betteries and diesel was the weakest point of the subs. Bateries alowed only limited time under water and the diesel was noisy.

2017 was a big jump in sales of EV. EV sold about 850000 vehicles worldwide up to date. It is predicted that total sales by the end of the year will reach about 1000000 vehicles. That is 68% increase against 2016. Dealers in some European countries were advised to stop temporarily taking orders for EVs because the manufacturers can't make enough of them.

Here in the US we don't have the need for EV's that are driving sales in China and India. Everybody's heard of the horrible air pollution in China, and India has similar problems. Their governments are encouraging EV's so things don't get even worse as more citizens become car owners. The US will be far behind Asia and likely Europe in adopting this technology since we have less costly gas and the severity of air pollution in cities has been reduced by modern emission regulations.

Watch Asia take the lead on EV's.

My bet is on a mass increase in EV/Hybrid/EREV and even hydrogen fuel cell vehicles of all kinds and sizes.
