You sure can tell when its DEER season:D

Yes, because the shooting goes on all around me. I don't mind some of it, but it becomes annoying, when it is twice a day, EVERY day. Usually startles the horses too.

I think word is out to the deer that no hunting goes on on my place. When I went out this morning, there was a deer standing not too far from the security light at the barn. He didn't stay too long after he saw me, but he was at least a 6 pt! Beautiful, and fat! Maybe he has been enjoying my ryegrass too!

I'm with Lou. I'll hunt up another beer, and the next Willie CD, (Red Headed Stranger is a good one!) I don't hunt, and while I don't find it evil, I do find fault with those that do it for sport only.

I don't hunt, the wildlife is part of the scenery, besides I don't eat meat now..... I don't care that other people hunt, but it is not allowed on our land. My Dad never deer hunted, when we needed meat for the freezer we just butchered a cow at grandpa's and got a quarter. I wish hunters could tell the difference between varmints and wildlife. During deer season I have to wear bright clothes and yell a lot when I'm walking through the woods. I still hear way too many shots and sometimes up to 14 in 3.5 seconds. It seems everyone wants to be a weekend Rambo with their automatic weapons.

My uncle hunted and always bragged how good the meat tasted but no matter how he fixed it I alway wanted to spit it out. The only way it tasted was in sausage with a lot of pork, smoked and with catsup.

I do eat meat, and I grew up eating squirrels, rabbits, and a variety of birds, as well as beef and pork. I've enjoyed eating deer, moose, buffalo, black bear, caribou, raccoon, turtles, and a wide variety of fish, etc. But the last time I went deer hunting was in 1972 and didn't see a deer that day. The only time I've shot a deer was about 1961-62. I reckon if I could get my meat cheaper by hunting than buying it at the grocery store, I'd be a hunter. But I won't spend more, and I really have no desire to kill anything anyway.

I think it is amazing how horses and deer can graze peacefully in the same pasture paying no attention to each other, or so it seems. But, you can be riding the same horses and a deer 300 feet away spooks them.
The deer don't even pay much attention to me when I'm mowing a field they are in. I guess blue is a friendly color.
I must need a "big red beast":D

Big cold front brewing, coming to Texas this coming week. Probable freezing temps and brisk wind predicted for much of Texas.

Get your garden covers ready.

So, this may have been covered before, but does anyone know how much land you legally need to have to be shooting a high powered deer rifle?

Here is Brazoria county.. you have to have 15A or more to hunt in the city limits.. dove hunt or shotgun only.. But I don't know about the other.. I have 18 A in the city and 54 in the county..it one piece..

I am with Bird and eat my share of meats.. I would throw in a possum also (little greasy),, I don't believe I ever ate rat,, if I did,, I didn't know it was rat.. but being raised in Oklahoma both grandmothers were Indian,, to them it was food,, just count the poochs at night when things got bad in the winter.:laughing:. smile I am just messing with you. indian word for dog is pooch.:)..Lou

I never did get to try possum. My mother said dad brought in a possum once for her to cook, but he had skinned it out right on over the head and mother said that skinned head that looked like it was grinning was too much for her and she refused to cook it. I once dressed out a crow that I shot and wanted to try cooking it, but mother wouldn't let me in the house with it, so I never got to try that either. I did leave out the frog legs that I used to be very fond of.
