Lou, wish I was your neighbor, I would have to let loose a Simmental bull in with your cows, just to mess with your head!

I like a Simmental bull,, not as red as a Hereford.. but has good markings.. I have a friend that has a black Simmental bull looks like a Brangus to me.. but he has the papers.. so I guess it's a black Simmental.. Simmental was my other choice last year.. but I decided to go with the Hereford.. Lou

Dennis,, I have learn in all the years of ranching,, that you don't need a bull as long as your neighbors has a good one,, spend your time raise nice looking cows.. Lou

Bird, almost time to "scalp" the yard and fertilize! I need to do some oil changes too.

Dennis, the way the wind is blowing, if I try to fertilize my lawn today, you'll get all my fertilizer. That wind is sure gusting.

Chute Jim, I can't fool you, already have one of your hats from last year:D You would get yours from Bird, kinda like a "guvment" replacement program:laughing:

You're right about the wind. I went out and looked around at the many things I should be doing, then came right back in:confused3: For some reason, I don't have an ounce of "git-r-done" in me today.

I have an area that I put wildflower seed down on last fall as per experts in Fredericksburg. My question is when can I cut it, do I just let the springs rain come and enjoy color or can I mow a few times before I let the wildflowers come up and bloom. HS

HS, now would be a good time to mow the dead grass so you allow sunlight to the wildflower seedlings. Bluebonnets come up in the fall, so they are already there, just be careful to make as few passes as possible so the young seedlings don't get bruised. I like to use a regular lawnmower in the early springtime because the turf tires are not nearly as abusive as my tractor's tires.

Whatever wildflower you have, watch the stems closely for buds. Once the buds form, all mowing must be stopped. It's easy to see the buds form on bluebonnets, but may be less obvious on other wildflowers, especially Indian paintbrush. In my area, I don't dare mow after mid-march, but in your area it may be much earlier because of average temperatures in your area being much higher than here in N. TX.
