I left the house I was born in when I got married. Moving out was like moving to a different world. The only good thing about the old home place was it could grow anything. I grew up playing in Acme Brick Company's clay pit (and losing shoes in the sticky muck). I really didn't miss that old place when I left. After my dad passed, it was up to me to correct all the mistakes he'd made (sub-standard trailer park, letting people dump their trash/junk there, etc.) A neighbor commented to me that the place had never looked so good. He told me I had restored its beauty. That really made me feel good and made the property sell for a very good price.

It took the US Navy to really show me the world, but when I retired, The tug of having my family in Texas and knowing the area was just too much to stay away. What I like about Texas is that it has about every kind of geography and culture. Being neighbors to Oklahoma and Louisiana ain't too bad either.

Mike I'm going to take you up on the grapple type comparison test. Stake out an area with youpon and small cedar to clear. (If you have any left, If you don't I have 50 acres.) We will get a date when it's not raining and both have nothing planed. I'll bring the Shinier Bock and diesel!

I'll also bring my camera and we will start a thread in Attachments. I need a title that will not lead people to think of a grapple added to a regular FEL bucket, maybe something like this.

"OPEN BUCKET SHAPED GRAPPLE VS. BRUSH RAKE GRAPPLE - 2 grapples, 2 TBN testers, 1 tractor.

If Ron makes it down in time we can change it to "3 TBN testers" and Ron I know can make and post a youtube.

Talking about going home.. Here is something I wrote for a friend of mine,, when he retired.. Lou

Shadows

Sweet dreams below the leaves soft shadows from the trees
Soon the sun will set a new day has been met

A new phase of life begins just like it's always been
The day you're born till the day they mourn

You'll have things to do and some you will choose
You'll have a ways to go but with each step you'll grow

You'll meet people along the way some will brighten up your day
While others will cause you pain but there people just the same

Life secrets will unravel as your memories travel
The things you know others you will show

Then there comes a time to set back and unwind
Spend some time alone thinking about going home

Before life became a chore didn't have to lock your doors
Glad to see friends come by tell you things and wouldn't lie

Some say "you can't go home" They never spend some time alone
Your eyes will close and you will start to smile back to the time you were a child

When a fishing pole was all you had and the love of your mom and dad
when you had some time alone, you thought about being grown

But we are all headed for same day when six strong men will carry us away
No reason to be afraid some looks forward to that day

Sweet dreams below the leaves soft shadows from the trees
Soon the sun will set a new day has been met

Don,
Where I bought mine just calls it a bucket grapple. How about "Texas Grapple Shootout" for the thread title?
hugs, Brandi

Lou, did your friend have a terminal illness or was it just a reminder to live life to the fullest - what's left of it after having your best years to work......

Very "violent" storm rolling through!!, I dont think I have ever seen so much cloud to ground lighting in my life. Very loud and right now extreme rain. Outside temps are at 71.2*. Lightning is intense, rattling thee house pretty good. OK tht one took out the power!! wonderfull

Lost cell signal too! Checked the gauge with a flashlight, almost 1/2" in 10 minutes. Getting a little pea size hail.

Lou; I loved that poem! I am going to save it.

No rain here, just lots of lightning and noise. I got home and got evening chores finished just in time, it seems. Now to see what the weekend holds. Every time I check the forecast, we have a greater chance of freezinf rain, and the temps have been adjusted to colder.

I am working mostly outdoors tomorrow, but am hopeful that I can finish up around noon, and get back home to a fire in the fireplace and dry clothes. I hate cold weather! Tome to haul out my insulated coveralls!
