Jim, I did the same thing I poured the little tube into the large tube and marked all 11 inches. Now the marks are gone and I do not feel the need to remark. Last year I think it overflowed into the big tube about 5 times. You really do not have to worry about the top blowing off unless your's is built different than mine.

Don, my gage is sitting atop my deck railing on the west side of my house where it will be exposed to all kinds of swirling air currents in the wind. We have winds blow our deck boxes with firewood inside and a heavy table and iron chairs around the deck. If my gage top does come off, it's about a 15' drop down to concrete or pea gravel. I'd just as well be a "belt and suspenders" kind of guy and put the thumbscrew in. On my gage, I plan to use a small Dremel tool to mark the outer gage barrel and then put paint inside the marks. We'll see how it holds up.

It would be nice to have a rain gauge out in the winter up here, and would be possible if I was careful to bring it in before .....

Bird, After this last bout with the flu I'll take the small percentage and get the shot next year. I do not think the medical profession or CDC is wrong they just don't go far enough. I know that you being an ex-smoker believe they are wrong so what convinced you, besides cost, that the medical profession was right about smoking.

:laughing:Maybe there are some misconceptions there, Don. I can't say the medical profession is/was either right or wrong about smoking being bad for you, but many in that profession tried to blame all of man's health problems on smoking if they were dealing with a patient who smoked. In other words, they used it as a crutch instead of trying to identify the real problems.

I most definitely did not stop smoking for health reasons. I stopped because we have politicians who thought they could balance their budgets on the backs of the smokers so they upped the price too high to suit me. I figured if enough of us smokers quit, some of those "holier than thou" anti-smokers would have to pay their share of the taxes. And of course I knew the house, car, truck, etc. would stay cleaner.

It does seem logical to me that smoking would be bad for you, but I've personally seen how they falsely manipulated statistics to make it sound worse than it actually is.
