We got right at 6 inches of rain since Sat. night. My duck/island pond went over the spillway about 6 inches deep after I took this photo of the ducks playing in the drain culvert's white water. They were floating down the culvert catching baby crawdads and riding the whitewater out like we go tubin'. 3-9-15 Pond Fence Overflow.jpg

Two inches total yesterday and .6 the day before. Ground is slick and muddy. Hoping that it will dry out in the next few days. We hired a company to grub the mesquite in our pastures, and the cannot finish until we're dried out.

What are they using to grub the mesquite out and how much do they charge an acre?

3" here in two days.

I keep telling the locals around here, that I won't complain about the rain until our local lake is full.
Right now cedar creek is under 2 feet low, as compared to 7 feet a little over 2 months ago.

We are using Cedar Eaters. They are using a device called a "root n all" and skid steer on tracks. They have a grubber attachment that replaces the root n all that they are using for clean up. They are charging $125 per hour.

I sprayed a mixture of remedy and something else on some of our mesquite last summer. Curious to see what comes up this year. It looked like a pretty good kill rate. Heard that Sendero is the new in thing for spraying mesquite.

And here's a question. Since I have a sack of ryegrass seed left over from last fall, will it still be good and germinate this coming fall? Not that our pastures did good this past year. Worst ryegrass stand have had.

Maybe bad seed. ?? Mine came up good that I planted in the fall where I removed some mesquite and cut down an embankment. This pic was taken last week.

I put the old out and 2tons of stuff bought this year,I just don't think had enough sun yet for it to do anything,I know lack of moisture hasn't been the issue.

We sprayed the other pasture with a mixture of something and diesel. This pasture was out of control, so we went nuclear with our control efforts to reclaim. We will seed with bermuda once the soil warms up.

I seen big flock geese flying north yesterday.

Am I crazy for saying I wish we had some kinda law that made the neighbors liable for the wild hogs that live comfortable on their place and come in at night on me. I spend 365days a year thinning everyone I come across with 30-06,trap constantly and have let folks run dogs. It wouldnt be hard to prove where they stay, cause they dang well don't on me for very long until get lead poison. Few bills from what it takes me to fix pasture and I believe things would change.

Our area, in Colorado County, has been over run with hogs for years. The first thing we did, when we bought present ranch, in 2006 was add hog wire to ranch perimeter fence on three sides and part of forth side. Had neighbor with hog dogs come in and chase out remaining hogs out three days straight. Fence guys finished hog fence and no further problems in almost 9 years. Hogs occasionally dig up outside fence along front road but, no big problem to fix damage in small areas there.
