I can see them wanting to get rid anything that requires a person to be present.

Rick, did you ever get on Front Porch or do you want me to shoot you a PM on Bird's post?

I think what Brandi is saying is that HCTRA will be eliminating most of the cash pay booths going forward.
Correct. Cash pay booths will be going bye bye. TxTag and EZ Tag can all be linked.

I couldn't get Tx Tag toll plazas to read my EZ Tag on my windshield until I upped my minimum deposit from $40 to $50. Before I did that, I kept getting bills in the mail with handling charges and all kinds of fees. It took about 6 phone calls between all the involved toll operators to finally have a clerk tell me to increase my minimum deposit. I haven't had a problem after that.

Don is correct on EZ Tags costing $10 or $15. If you have a windshield replaced.....good luck getting the old one off and usable. A co-worker tried sticking his EZ Tag to a piece of lexan and taping it into any car he used. I am not sure how that worked out.
hugs, Brandi

No, I still am not sure on how to get access to it. Seems to be a big secret club ... or something???

I am using the new iPad app so that may be the problem?

I think we are all wanting some news on Mr. Bird's outcome if you can share.

Offer accepted on the Wharton house. No counteroffer-they took our initial.
Move in date is March 4, 2016. I need to get busy.

The drive is just under an hour-Traffic is always a bear in Houston, but according to the folks I spoke with, I will be traveling against the flow(?) in the heavier areas, and I go in early (6ish), and can leave mid afternoon, and avoid the peak hours. I can work from home a couple of days per week. Should be ok. Plus, to get what we wanted, commute was one of the sacrifices. No big deal.

Can't wait to get my hands on the barns. One is a new metal building-50X150 with 25 foot ceilings. Half the floor is concrete, the other half is dirt. Perfect for the horses. Plus it has a half bath. Second barn is 15x30. We can use that for feed and hay storage, or perhaps turn it into a home for chickens and turkeys.

Lots of fencing in my future! 3pt PHD is going to get quite the workout in the next few months.

That is a big barn, congrats on the new place.

We spent a day looking at new house's in Huntsville yesterday, they call them trailer houses but some sure are far from what I call a manufactor home. Tap/textured walls it don't even feel like one,we was talking about building a house but I just don't know yet what will do.

Congrats and good luck. What did the previous owners do with such a huge barn? My buddy has the same size down south of Victoria. His is already full of stuff. It could take him a month to clean it out.

How far outside Wharton are you? (distance to groceries, etc?) North, south east or west?

I'm hoping we hear from Bird on Tuesday. That was the date for him to return home in his original post.

You do realize the off peak time for Houston driving is between 4 am and 6 am Sunday only. :D

(Sounds like good hours - you will be OK.)

If it is a trailer home, be sure to get it on concrete. I just spent the last 3 days releveling my trailer after 21 years of sitting on a wet weather spring. I even had to pull it over at the high end with the excavator holding tension the whole time I was releveling, as all the blocks leaned the trailer into the deck. Lugging a 20 ton pneu. jack and cinder blocks are back braking when working in a two foot high space.
hugs, Brandi

The house we are looking at they will need to do concrete runners cause of the weight and it being tap/textured walls. The cool thing they said was even in -59 the house will still be able to manage a 70deg temp, everything inside is built same as a house. We plan on going to Oak Creek factory and take a tour, when spending 99,000 like to see what's behind the Sheetrock.

Thanks to all for the congratulations. I'm excited, but at the same time, I dread moving.

The barn was used to store farm equipment. He has two combines and three or four vintange tractors he is working on. There is also an old jeep with a high mounted seat, so I'm guessing a dove hunting vehicle.

The area is corn fields, so the combines were used in the corn operation. I assume he leased the property all around. The house is on 10 acres, and that is ready to plant, but he has too much equipment for that size of acreage. The adjoining properties and the acreage across the street look to be all corn fields.

The house is 7 miles from Downtown Wharton. We are northeast of town (Hungerford) There is an HEB and some other stores in Wharton. El Campo is 19 miles away and Rosenberg/Richmond are 20 miles. The house is remote, but we're close to anything we'll need.

My old friend Jim Goode, who started the Goode Co. BBQ, Seafood, Armadillo Palace, etc. passed away on February 2nd. There will be some great BBQ in Heaven.

May he rest in peace.

Be sure to make sure the trailer You buy has solid wood floors. Marine plywood preferred over the air conditioning ducts. Because they sweat a lot and the floor buckles first over the ducts. My trailer came with double windows and extra insulation. Glad I bought the extra.

Also check to make sure they put felt underneath the shingles, or even a better sheathing. Don't ask me how I know this. :(
