180 years ago today, at Washington-on-the-Brazos, the 62 delegates of the people of Texas declared, "the people of Texas do now constitute a free, Sovereign, and independent republic" giving the middle finger to Mexico!
Happy Birthday Texas

I think your acorns are smarter than mine. I had a pretty good crop, enough that they would roll when I walk on them. I fell three times this year from those acorns. We still had a mild winter.
I have been out there kicking them. Hopefully, I kicked some sense into them.

You think maybe they are tripping me as pay back?
Uh..............we are a couple of miles south of you also.

Yep...............HAPPY BIRTHDAY..................Texas!

I don't want to get political on our thread, but has anyone heard of the Texas national movement? They are the ones that are pushing for Texas to secede.

Texas can't secede, but can morph into 4 or 5 new states.

Maybe I should take the long way to work and drive through there...Salute!

I dare you or anyone to be able to read this without tears welling up in your eyes:

Commandancy of the The Alamo

Bejar, Feby. 24th. 1836

To the People of Texas & All Americans in the World-

Fellow Citizens & compatriots-

I am besieged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna - I have sustained a continual Bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man - The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken - I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls - I shall never surrender or retreat. Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid, with all dispatch - The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country - Victory or Death.

William Barret Travis.

Lt. Col.comdt.

P. S. The Lord is on our side - When the enemy appeared in sight we had not three bushels of corn - We have since found in deserted houses 80 or 90 bushels and got into the walls 20 or 30 head of Beeves.

Since this storm started yesterday we have 4.25 inches in the gauge and it's still pouring. We do have some flooding and it will get worse.

Charlie, according to my gauge, we're just over 3" and it's barely sprinkling. TV news shows storm damage all around this area, but nothing really close so far. But there's more on the way.

Over 1 1/2" overnight so, about 6" total. Would rather have this spread over 6 weeks as tractors are grounded, again, until pastures firm up. Everything really "squishy" now.

We got a drop or two over 7 inches. Yesterday morning I went out to the island pond and studied all the run off behind the dam. Now I got a better idea how to enlarge the pond. Especially after bringing this bad boy home........Ford F700 1992 Dumptruck.jpg
It's a 1992 Ford F700.
