That could be. He said he used the "alt/option" key and if my keyboard has "option" anywhere I haven't found it. But Jim's method worked.
Bird,
You got the clue.
"Option" is in the vernacular of a MAC user.
Of course now that many MAC users are using Windows chips and installing Windows programs on their MACS it's a new ball game.

You have a windows computer, so Jim's method works.
As he pointed out different fonts use different combinations. Too much for me to remember except for a few I use often. Going to Accessories-System Tools-Character Map shows you the combination to use for whatever font you are in if you want to use keystrokes. See attached.

Thanks, Ron. Since I'm running Windows 7, Jim's method didn't work because "Run" is not one of the options at the "Start" drop down box, but your method does work so the Character Map is there. Just one more thing I've learned from TBN and its members.

There used to be the same thing in an older version of my mac but for the life of me I cant find it on this version. I think it was called special characters pallette but I cant seem to be able to bring it up:confused:

I think I just got an idea for a PC commercial.;):D

And after Ron told me how to find my character map, I find literally hundreds of characters, but not the one for degrees temperature (°). Speaking of which, it's 95° here now.

Bird,
You are correct about Run not being on the list where Jim described it.
However with Vista and Windows 7 the built in search has become a super fast, fantastic tool. You can find things you have forgotten where you filed them very easily just by typing a description in the search box.
As you see in the attached my pc found, and yours will too, the Character Map program by just beginning to type the word. As you notice the Programs are listed first, then files, then if you select more it will even find email messages that you have stored on the computer containing the characters.
Give it a try, saves lots of time.
I wouldn't be so broad as to just type (.jpg ) in, but if you did, it would find every picture in the .jpg format on your computer.

If you switched from X to Lion this may be your problem.

Mac OS X Leopard: Keyboard Viewer, Character Palette does not appear

I've never used a MAC but have had to figure out how some things work on it for proper communication and file transfers since a few of my genealogy team
members have them.

Thanks, Ron. I never heard it called a masculine ordinal indicaor before.

I figure there's just a chance I may learn to operate one of these computers someday, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Bird,
Now your getting technical. It really isn't.

Just try this: hold down the ALT key and type 248 on the numeric pad, then release the ALT key.

   / Texas Heat! #1,291
You are right I do have a Mac. The "option" on the keypad has "alt" written in little letters also.

劼 is alt 248 on a Mac.

I will be installing Lion soon, anything to watch out for, good or bad?

Don,
If you are directing your question towards me, I really can't give you an honest answer. I have always used windows.
A lot depends on the depth of your experience using a MAC, what things you use it for, whether your present hardware is totally compatible with the requirements of Lion to give you high speed processing and if you are willing to spend the time required to become adept to the changes and to fix the bugs.
Same applies to Windows...
I have heard from my friends that there are things they don't like about it but it may be they are trying to avoid the changes instead of dealing with them.
If it were me, before installing it I would spend some time getting opinions
from Google which are probably scewed both ways but at least might be a hint of things to look out for.
Maybe search for: mac os x lion pros and cons

Yeah, I noticed that, Larry, when I was looking for the Character Map. I knew it had to be there somewhere. I can't really say Windows 7 is any better than XP for my use, but I upgraded to it anyway.

You just add to the path and take more time to get to your destination by using "Run" in W-7.
Pinning is handy but can slow your system down, just like too many desktop shortcuts, or taskbar pins, in my humble opinion and experience.

For those folks that visit TBN many times per day you would find it handy to pin it to the taskbar, if you have windows-7.
Just left click on the icon in the address box and drag it to the taskbar and release. That is a super fast shortcut that will open your browser and take you there with one click.
All roads lead to Rome, it just depends on how fast you want to get there...

Well Kyle from your rain we got your wind and lightning, which started a grass fire down the road, which we just put out. Now I smell like burning cow pie.:confused2:

I see a lucky few getting some light rain in N Texas!

Hit 100* at my house, weatherman said new record for D/FW, and new record here for 100* + days in a year at 71 days.

Looks like we will have an extreme fire danger state wide, until there is nothing left to burn.

Glad you got it out. How did you know about it? Did you see the smoke? With the wind, I can't figure out how you got it out. Seems like the best piece of equipment to have nowadays is an old 4X4 with a big water tote in the bed, a good pump with sprayer hose, and a charged battery to make sure it starts. They are saying this drought might last 5 more years.

.04" Rain (Cows didn't even get wet)

56mph wind (Got home after dark. Wife says sounded like large branch cracked)

About another inch of thunder.
