Like he said, once they get in they high-tail it north and east to the big cities. That's where the jobs are. And the cops could care less. I can spot the illegals. They're the ones with the paper dealer plates that don't expire for a year on old, half junk cars. I worked in LA for a year and it is just as bad and likely worse. Can you imagine what a house would cost though if we had to pay white guys to build it? It is not their fault Mexico is a third world slave country. I'd leave too.

No, it's safer at our place in South Texas than it is in our upper middle class suburban neighborhood. Directly on the border may still be bad, I don't know but Laredo isn't far from us and I don't ever hear about anything going on there. I think most of the cartel violence has settled down, guys I know that stopped hunting Mexico have started going back in the last couple of years and none of them have had any issues.

Truth is, illegals that are coming here for work (which is 90% or more of them) aren't interested in getting into any trouble, they just want a job and to stay under the radar. It'd be a lot easier to secure the border from the guys that are coming with bad intent if we could come up with a reasonable way for the guys that just want to work to come here legally.

I own a lawn service so have had to deal with manual labor a lot and I'll tell you that honestly, it's not about what the job pays, it's that "white" guys really don't want to work hard, or do manual labor at all. I've paid leads $800 - $900 per week and helpers $500 - $700 per week, to cut grass, and still can't get "white" guys to do the job. The few that would take the job had problems that manifested as soon as they got a paycheck or two and remembered how much they liked drugs/alcohol now that they could afford it again. The labor problem for construction, landscaping, restaurants, etc. is bad. In fact, it got to be such a hassle that we've subbed all of our work out so that we don't have to directly deal with it anymore. We still have to some but now we have a lot more labor available to us than we need so we're able to spread things out on the others when we have problems with one (or more) of the subs.

It's such a political issue though, it probably won't get solved anytime soon. W came the closest to what I believe is reasonable, this country needs a workable guest worker program but there's no political will to do so. I think it's because many, probably most, illegals work on false documents so teh government is unwilling to give up that "free" money from them paying into the system but not ever filing returns.

Work visas (green cards) have been in use for decades. Builders would rather hire the illegals because they'll work harder, won't steal, and will not complain about conditions or wages. For all intents and purposes they are de-facto slaves. You are right that white guys will not do certain jobs. When I was younger I did all kinds of apprentice level construction work and was happy to get it. Never slept better than back when I was doing hard, manual labor.

You need to get a blue flashing strobe light to set on the dash and a Home Land Security ball cap and a black jacket that has SECURITY across the back/front and then pull over there get out and look really serious, don't forget your pistol strapped to the side so they can see it... and watch 'em scatter like cockroaches...lol.

Yes, there is some truth to it. My family has a place near Laredo, on the river (Rio Grande). We are absentee owners. The place has been used by drug runners and coyotes for years. They have cut our locks off the gates and put their own locks on multiple times. Recently we made a deal with a local guy to do some farming on the place. He has been threatened several times by the drug runners. He has told them he will leave them alone if they will leave him and his equipment alone. There were so many trails thru the brush that we recently spent about $25k having the brush cleared along the hiway.
The Border Patrol does not go along the river unless in pairs or more. We dont go there alone or unarmed or at night. Often we can see a "lookout" with a hand-held radio on the other side of the river watching us as we turn of the water pump or while we are working on the pump.

We have another place about 45 miles from the border. For about a year it was used as a staging area for the coyotes and miscellaneous transients. Apparently they would walk in to the place where there was a concrete water tank that served them as a landmark. There they would change into good clothes and be picked up by a runner who would take them to Houston or Dallas or beyond. We took over 150 backpacks out of the concrete water tank. Occasionally, a BP or deputy would chase the vehicle (usually a pickup or van) loaded with 10-20 illegals. The driver would drive thru a fence into the brush and everyone would bail out and scatter. More than once the vehicle crashed and a few were killed. One time our hunters saw some illegals walking thru the brush. They called the BP and the BP came out in force and rounded up 53 illegals.

There are more stories, such as the ranchers who find the bodies of those who did not make it to a pick-up point. There is little interest in DC about doing something about the problem, in fact the current administration has ham-strung the BP to the point they are just there to watch and help if the illegals get tired or thirsty.

It seems that our current administration doesn't understand that 'illegal' is "ILLEGAL".

Everybody in the world 'just wants a better life'. But they're not willing to ante up the cost for it. We did, and I'm not willing to just donate it to everyone that wants to walk across the border! There are ways to become US citizens, but they're not willing to do that.

I grew up south of Houston, and thought it was only a local problem. But no... it's a total US problem. And that's why we have many US citizens that can't find work at any price, and all of the 'illegals' are doing just fine, and paying zero for additional benefits sans taxes.

Crackerjack22, that's really incredible. Just what we've been hearing up here. Bleeding heart Liberals don't believe it.
Good to hear from someone with first hand knowledge.
