Me, too.

I'd hate to be in the planned zone for such a thing. I've been busy planting fruit and nut trees since we moved to our present location about five years ago. For a while it looked like a new bypass might come close to our place, but that seems to have changed. It'd sure be a pi$$er to put lots of effort into improving a place and then have your orchard and gardens covered with asphalt. I'm coming up on an age when it would be difficult to start over with the trees and such at a new place. Let's see....pecans produce (maybe) in seven years, so I'll be 64 when I see my first yield (maybe). Ouch.

Ack! My place near Ponder is right in the middle of the "reasonable alternative" that wraps around west of Dallas.

Just think of the traffic bottleneck at the Texas-Oklahoma border when this thing merges down to two lanes going north!

It's bad enough right now, about 1 mile into Oklahoma it goes into a construction zone. one lane in each dierection for about 10 miles

Yep, every time I drive into Oklahoma they are working on I35. That's why I avoid it at all costs.

From 1945 to the present time, I've been up and down U.S. 77 until I-35 was built and I-35 since then, between Ardmore, OK, and Dallas, TX, and can not remember a time that there was not construction underway on those highways somewhere. Sunday, we got off I-35 and onto the old U.S. 77 as soon as we crossed the Red River and avoided that construction that way.

Bird,

You are right about the continued construction up and down 35 and it's only going to get worse between Denton and Lake Lewisville with the new construction that is planned over the next couple of years.

I also take US77 in Oklahoma instead of I35.

Don, the way I read it, the 10-mile wide swath represents a "possible" path where they did environmental impact studies. I'd be surprised to see the actual ROW be much over 1/4 mile wide, maybe less. I guess in areas where they would have rail and mass transit, the total cumulative width could be more. Do you know for sure what the actual ROW will be? Perhaps I'm just uninformed. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

If I was a betting man, I'd bet the western route around DFW will win out anyhow, maybe even a east-west fork like I-35 currently does. I think the eastern route will meet so much opposition and cost that the western route would win when push comes to shove. Besides, I can't see the current overcrowded Dallas highways supporting construction traffic. Aren't most of the limestone quarries on the west and northwest sides of Fort Worth? I know most of DFW airport came out of the ground near Bridgeport.

Jim, like you, I thought the 10 mile wide thing was just the possible path. But I thought I read somewhere that they intended to give the contractor control of a 2 mile wide swath so the contractor could control whatever is built alongside the corridor. Maybe I was dreaming; I can't find anything about that right now.
