Speaking of trees and snakes, found this guy while out riding the other weekend.
Some places you gotta look up as well as down when walking around

What a great lookin' rat snake. They will give you a start, but they are worth their weight in gold for rodent control. Unfortunately, this time of year they are also gobbling up lots of bird eggs and little peepers too. They sure can wreak havoc in a hen house.

Ron, I honestly don't know! I have never paid attention:eek:. I think there may be a few around in that time, but sure you will see one the way North, I have seen allot of BB around the Austin area west to Hwy 281.

Ron, I've noticed the bluebonnets on west facing slopes along the highway are far ahead of the east facing or flat areas. The slopes may be getting a bit long-in-the-tooth in couple of weeks, but the others should be still looking good. Mine still have lots of buds that haven't blossomed out.

Our natural patch of Indian Paint Brushes in the front yard is in full bloom. With the 2" rain yesterday the other wildflowers will be popping soon.

Bird,

Are you, or someone you know in or near Abilene?

I am trying to locate Paul E. Leary, Jr's family and he was shown as from Abilene.

He was killed in a firefight 01.16.71. MAJ Leary was a great man trying to save some guys who were ambushed. I saw a note to him from his daughter Paula as written in 2008 at the Virtual wall Internet site and it make me want to try to contact them.

Thank you,

Jim

Sorry, Jim, but in spite of Abilene Christian being my alma mater, I haven't even passed through Abilene in more than 20 years, and I live about 190 miles from Abilene. Unfortunately, I don't even know anyone in that area anymore.

Hwy 290 between Austin and Houston is a really great drive this time of year because of the flowers.

Hey Ron,

Just got home from work and see there is a tornado in the McAllen area. Weatherman says there's also hail coming down. Hope you made it through the storm unscathed. I'm in Laguna Vista and count my blessings cause we missed it completely.

We are on north end of McAllen. West of downtown Edinburg. Everyone is OK. From inside the motorhome it sounded like the whole place was going to come down. The lighter hail that came down first must have protected all the plastic stuff on the roof from the heavier sized hail that fell later. Could not see any damage other than the stakes holding sun shade down off awning pulled out. Little flooding of streets here in park. Power was out for 2 hours. But generator started up and gave power until I hit the bed at 12:00.
Looked at rain gauge. It shows 3.3 inches of rain. News reports this morning show piles of hail up to 6" deep on the roads. Some hail was over 2" in diameter. Some wind damage and flooding. Hail does not hit the RGV very often. Last time was in 1991.
Weather reports showed 3 storms from different directions coming together on top of us.

Ron, when you guys come here, bring the rain, but leave the hail.;) Normally we either get frost, hail, or high winds that tear up our garden just after we set out tomato plants. I'll be doing that this weekend, so I'll keep my eyes on the weather forecast.

I'm sure happy you and Betty are okay and the MH made it through with only minor damage.

Good to hear you're OK. That sounds like one heck of a storm!!!!!!

Light sprinkles here. The forecast is changing every time I look at it. We're up and down on the possibility of rain, even while it's raining!!!

Is anybody else noticing more mosquitos then every before? I'm spraying myself down with bug spray, and they are still all over me. It's almost as bad as it is in Alaska.

Oh yeah, seems like more bugs overall so far this year. Coming home from work last nigh, the moths where so thick, it looked like light snow on my county road. I have never seen moths like that.

Heres an odd thing I have noticed over the years. when at work on a parking lot, the mosquitoes dont really bother me, but get into a grassy area and it's a war zone. It has to be the radiant heat or something els, since a mere few feet seems to matter.

Eddie, I haven't noticed a single mosquito yet this year, but maybe that's because I haven't gotten out much aroun dusk. We do have plenty of June bugs, moths, etc.

Dennis, you saying no mosquitos in the parking lots probably means not much to eat out there. It reminds me of my experience in Alaska. We could go out in the boat and never be bothered by a mosquito as long as we stayed away from the shore. But get within 10' of the bank and you'd better have your Deep Woods Off.

I'm gonna put plenty of fathead minnows in my new ponds to hopefully keep the mosquito population down. Even so, I'm sure to use Off when I'm outside in the summer.
