My two new ponds got enough runoff to raise one 3' and the other 2'. Our lake is up about 18". Two or three more of these will put us at a nearly full level. I prefer rain and no wind/hail/tornado alerts, but this even was no problem for me. I think I have two tomato plants with broken branches and two young bean plants that washed out when the water ran across the row. My 8' tall asparagus ferns also are leaning. One of them about 1/2" diameter completely broke off and ended up in the middle of my onion rows. Do they make asparagus cages?;) :D

97 Degrees today. Tied the record.

I don't think I raised my tank 6 inches. It all soaked in, as fast as it came down.

Some of the tanks toward Cresson, and also around Whiskey Flats added water to them though. Too bad some had severe stuff, as well as rain.

Yeah Jim, I hear you get some "T" post and string/netting.........................

Boy was it humid today! 10 minutes and I was starting to get drenched. Like Farmgirl, all our water soaked in pretty much.

What's up with the storm southeast of Dallas down I-45? It seems to be a pop-up thunderstorm. Looks like the Ennis/Corsicana area.

Jim, someone there is either washing their car or left their windows down:D

I don't know where the rain might have been, but it was warm and HUMID today! I guess all blankets can come off of the bed when I do laundry tomorrow! Took them off a couple of times, only to have to put them back on, with the late cold spells. Bet I won't need them again before next winter! I think summer has arrived!

I am determined to make it to Memorial Day before I turn on the A/C though. Once turned on, it is hard to go back to not running it.

I don't care if I turn the AC on in the afternoon now. At night when it cools off, we turn it off and open the house so sleeping is excellent with the sound of whippoorwills calling and frogs croaking at my ponds. Last night there was one frog really singing for his lady. How these tiny frogs can make so much noise is beyond me, but I love listening to them and the occasional owl. When it gets hot and I have to run the AC all night, I will really miss my nighttime friends.

I mixed up some Sevin spray and got after my garden today. With the rain washing the insecticide off and plants getting on the ground, bugs can really have easy access. I killed about a dozen cucumber beetles on three zucchini plants (none were on any of my other squash or melons). However, I had squash bugs spread around on cucumbers, yellow squash, and spaghetti squash. I killed half a dozen of them. I will have to pick sugar snap peas tomorrow, so I didn't spray them or my onions. However, my beans, blackeyes, tomatoes, peppers, and cucurbits all got sprayed. I also pulled about 10 thumb sized green onions. I love fresh green onions chopped into my salads, beans, soup, and even by themselves with a shaker of salt-substitute since salt is forbidden in my diet. Aren't green onions a redneck breath mint?:D

Oh yes, almost forgot. My 42" tall by 328' roll of garden trellis netting was delivered by FedEx today. I'll be getting it put up soon for my tomatoes. I have plenty of t-posts and string for support.

Frmgirl ,Shoot, I turn my AC on when it gets to 73* I'm very hot nature'd.

Jim, looks like a big storm is brewing West of us, you in particular with the direction they are moving. NOAA says possibility of "giant" hail and isolated tornadoes:eek:! May want to go put some Kevlar on your garden:D

When need to come up with a "shorter" name for Farmgirl19, I dont know..Fred..Joe..Will??? Nadeen's to long Thelma might work?:D:stirthepot:

I am stubborn about the A/C, and the Heat. I do most of my heating with firewood. I have many fans going, right now, though. I work outdoors, most of the time, so getting used to climate control makes work harder.

Western; not sure what to tell you about a shorter name for me. My real name is only 3 letters shorter. Of course, that would make it one letter shorter than Thelma!

I was hoping to go to bed early tonight. With more storms brewing north of here, maybe i'll stay up and make sure you and jinman stay safe. Talk of hail and tornadoes doesn't make for a restful night anyway.

NOAA now says, "Severe T-storms expected, from a line Jacksboro to Lampasas", and Palo Pinto, Parker, Wise and Denton Counties are included.

Fasten yoiur seatbelts folks, it might be another bumpy ride!

Our forecast for tomorrow is a high of 94, so our A/C will probably be on for the next 4 or 5 months. I don't mind being outside in the heat too much, as long as I can come in and shower and sleep cool.

NWS still doesn't show any rain expected in Denton, although the radar makes it look like a possibility, and the clouds here do, too.

Looking at the radar, Western and jinman should be getting some showers. The heavier stuff is still west of y'all, but appears to be building slowly in intensity.

I finally ordered a FoodSaver V3880. It was delivered a couple of days ago and I needed to use it just to make sure it worked. So . . . awhile back I noticed ears of corn at Walmart for 50 cents each, then later 38 cents each, and today 22 cents each, so I finally bought a few; don't know yet how good they'll taste, but they look good. And the new FoodSaver does work, at least.

Bird; I have been thinking about one of those. Let me know how you like it, after you have used it a bit. May need to get one when the garden starts coming in good!

We bought one several years ago as a gift for a daughter and son-in-law and had some doubts about it being worthwhile. Our daughter says she had some doubts, too, when they first got it, but says they sure use it a lot now. We've been using the Ziplock vacuum bags and little hand pump. That works pretty well if what you want to seal is the right shape and size, but sometimes it just isn't.

And as with so many products in this day and age, there are so many different models, it's hard to decide which one to buy. I really think a cheaper model should be good enough, but I've sometimes regretted buying too cheap, and they do have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, during which time you can return it for exchange or refund.

Bird, I bought some corn at the Springtown Brookshires 10 for $3 last weekend and they grilled in foil great! Ones we bought 3 weeks ago where tough and dirt flavored (at Walmart).

The storm to my West N West is really putting on an audio show, Graham must be getting washed away, that storm has been there over an hour! If it keeps building, not so sure I want any part of it! Pete Delcus said there is a high probability of "super cells" developing and we all know what that can mean in Texas.........GUN CONTROL..:D yeahhh riight!!!

   / Texas Spring/Summer Thread #1,518
I'd like to have some of Graham's rain, to add to my stock tank, but sure hope the "super cells" do not form!

Well...NOAA radar shows tornado, but nothing on the news???? I dont need the rain "that" bad:laughing: I'll use Jim's well if it comes to that.

Storm is intensifying.

Well, the radar looks like some of you should be getting a decent shower. So far, it appears the light rain is as far south as I-20. Nothing here yet.
