And I enjoyed sitting out on the patio in shorts and a t-shirt this morning. I know we had a little north wind before daylight because it blew rain in on the patio from that direction. Then I sat out there drinking my coffee when there was no wind at all, and now we have a strong south wind.:confused3: I think my rain gauge has about an inch and a third in it, and it appears the rain might be coming to an end. The sky is sure getting lighter in the west.

This one was supposed to have only wind and rain/lightening, so slept right threw it. We need one like this every week:thumbsup:

Now to get the truck put together for a road trip to Houston:thumbdown: Hate the big "H" traffic!!

They have a festival, rightly called the "Olathe Sweet Corn Festival" When we lived there, we got the festival and the live entertainment one year was the band "Loverboy" It was incredible. Likely out of most of y'all's taste though, being "old" and all:shocked:

My total only ended up being 9/10", but I really didn't need a big rain just now. I aerated the soil around my squash, okra, and blackeyed peas yesterday morning. I guess I'll have to do that job again as soon as it drys out enough to get into the garden. It's easy to do because I've kept my soil nice and fluffy. I may have tomatoes as big as grapefruit if they don't bust open from all the moisture. I have lots of tomatoes almost the size of softballs and they are still green.

My two new ponds are starting to look like ponds, but still very muddy. When it drys out enough to get some photos, I'll try to post them.

Earlier in the week, I discovered my GE garbage disposal seal is leaking and ordered parts to fix it. Now, my GE side-by-side 25 cu ft refrigerator is not working properly. The freezer is cold enough to freeze ice, but not keep food frozen solid and the refrigerator is too warm except for the very bottom double crisper drawers. I checked at PartSelect.com where they have repair tips and videos to help. They suggest that 40% of the time the problem is the defrost sensor and 20% of the time it's the freezer thermostat. I ordered both since they were less than $10 each. If I put them in and that doesn't fix it, the next thing is the control circuit board at $162. With the lightning storms we've had, it could very well be the board, but I'm gonna try the cheap parts first. The back of the freezer compartment is frosted up just like the symptoms of the defrost sensor, so there's a good chance that's the problem. The nice thing is all these parts are easy to get at and replace.

My house was finished in 2002 and I moved-in in 2003. That means my appliances are 10 years old. It would seem "stuff happens" around the 10 yr mark. I can't complain really. It's only frustrating because the appliances have been so reliable that I've come to take them for granted. Besides, I have a 19 cu ft refrigerator/freezer in my basement family room and a 19 cu ft chest freezer in my garage. They are keeping me from losing any expensive food.:thumbsup:

Now I am trying to figure out which is worse. I usually weedeat in shorts, but the clippings flying back can get painful. So, was in jeans this morning, and of course, rains had washed away a couple of fireant mounds, and I hit them without knowing it. With jeans and shoes on, one doesn't realize they are in the ants, until they are up the legs and stinging. Hard to try to strip fast enough, in that situation, and was at the front gate, so stripping wasn't a good option anyway.

I'll bet I get a little something special for those monsters this week!!!!

jinman; I had that problem with my Hotpoint, side by side, and it is made by GE. It was the defrost sensor/timer.

It will be interesting to see what kind of core they have. I usually prefer the 8-10 oz varieties, as the larger ones have more core than I like. Maybe you hogging the rain earlier, just let yours grow more! :laughing:

Well now; That was a brisk workout! There is still plenty to use the push mower on tomorrow, at the barn, etc., but at least the lawn is done. I was running out of light on the last few passes, so may not be perfect, but should keep it from getting too tall and bogging down next time.

Tell me, why do people think they need a gym membership?

Because some people up North hog all the rain and there is nothing to mow down South. Of course we could just push a mower around but that gets too dusty.

TXDon; You'd better have a talk with jinman. He keeps all he can to himself.

I see people on riding mowers for areas smaller than the half acre. Honestly, how hard is it to push a mower for a while? Yes, I use the tractor for the pastures, but still do with the push around the house and barn. Looks neater that way, and a good workout too!

Killed 2 Cucumber beetles, looked for an hour, I guess that isn't bad considering. Walking in the garden sounds like a beehive!! Little fellas are working my flowers over and they are certainly welcome!!

I did see some "flies" I have not looked into much before, so a search was in order, they are "hoovering" over my Squash, zucs and melons/cucumbers, red ones and "greenish: ones :laughing:.

After looking for fly's on the internet, I found the little "reddish" fly's, Trichopoda pennipes in the Tachinidea family (news to me ) I haven't found the "greenish one yet, but so far they sound like a positive.

It's funny that you mention core. By that, I'm guessing you mean the part with seeds. Last night at our favorite Mexican restaurant, I ordered a side dish of pico de gallo. When it was served, I examined it for tomato and pepper seeds; not a single one. It was very good and made me want to rush down to my garden to get some cilantro leaves off my little plants. I'll resist and let them grow some more, but I sure do want to be making my own pico as soon as my tomatoes start to ripen. Since I got snookered into growing jalapenos, I'll have plenty of those to add to the pico too. I can tell that the pepper roaster I got for Christmas last year is gonna come in handy.

What are you gonna do with water anyhow? You'd just water your mesquite trees and prickly pear cactus. With your deep sand, it will all just soak in and disappear. I guess if it rains hard enough, you might drown some of your snakes. :laughing:
