Texas Spring/Summer Thread

Drizzled yesterday evening but less than a 1/2 in rain. Did cool off quite a bit today and it looks like the real rain will be tonight and tomorrow. I've been lied to before so I'll believe it when I see it. There is always hope & prayer.

Looked like it rained in Houston are, for sure in Katy yesterday. I hear nothing at home yet, but much hope for the 7-% chance today and tonight.

Man, the panhandlers are out in the Houston area, been awhile since I had so many people come up to lazy to work. 7 just tonight, when offered $ for labor, they couldn't??? Hate this town, not sure it's even still part of Texas:shocked:

They wouldn't do it if it didn't work. You notice you don't see it in the rural areas, right? That's because it doesn't work where people know you and you know them. The reality is it is a big city job all around the world. It's a business and usually one ran by an organization.

Im showing 61 degrees and a flash flood watch in effect from this evening they Friday afternoon.

So far no rain.

You are lucky .. Just finished the first cut ... BAD .. Good hay just very little ... Just shy of 1 bale (4x5) per acre.

Nothing worse then riding around cutting, raking and baling so little.

We only got .02" yesterday with a total of .07" for July we are getting dry again and the grass has stopped growing and turning brown. Nice cloudy day today.

It's very irritating, after an emphatic "NO", to see your nice clean windshield have dirty water put on it and then wiped off with a sandy squeegee and then the panhandler request you pay for his service. Houston never could control the panhandlers.

Yeah hate to hear that. I know exactly how feels raking several passes to just get windrow. I have been averaging 4 bales an acre(4x5s) this year,been something else to see here. I have made more this year already then have last 3 together and I'm not done. You know if need some I will put back for you,as you would have done for me in past.

Don, I had one guy come up in a wheel chair, naturally I felt sympathy. I told him I kept no money while on the job (true), so he wheeled over by the building, got out of the chair and walked over and urinated on the wall. He was one of 7 that hit me up on that job in 4 hrs, then had one hit me up pulling into the motel.

Been seeing great windrows in fields around the house, so a few are getting some decent bales with the limited rainfall. I think the rain fell at just the right few times, still seeing it at $80 roadside though.

A friend has last years 4ft. round bales for sale for $25. The kids played on them and some of the strings are broke. long transportation is not advised.

Wondering whatever happened to the guy who got shot trying to steal hay over around Dime Box or Lexington a year or so back and the guy who shot him. Any update you know of?

NWS shows a 90% chance of heavy rain today and tonight. I woke up about 3:35 a.m. this morning, looked at the clock, turned over to go back to sleep, when I noticed lightning and our power went off (digital clock went black). So I decided to get up and see what was going on. The power came back on within a minute or two. The dog and I went out the back door; nothing going on outside. I came back in, got some coffee, and had just sat down here at the computer when it sounded like the bottom fell out; heavy downpour at 4:15 a.m., but it didn't last 2 minutes and was gone.

But I have high hopes for more rain later.

I was up at 4:30 and heard the booms in the distance but it never came down this far. It seems for the time being it is going to hang around north of us with the edge just a couple of miles away. It looks like our friends in Sunset are getting a ton of the good stuff this morning. Hope all is well there.

Started here around 4 .. Haven't looked at the gauge but it's been steady nice rain .. Not a down pour just a good rain... Local weather says areas near Denton are really getting rain .. A couple counties are in a flood warning.

Dennis-- I'm with you, I'd rather go almost anywhere but Houston. Driving there is the worst.

Raining here this morning and looks like it will continue all day........Whoppeeeeee! Haven't got out to check the gauge yet. Hope everybody gets what they need, but the flooding north of Denton looks serious. Hope Bird is on High Ground.
