I sent out quite a few bid request in the mid-west and only had two replys back (one only after I told them I knew about shipping charges) I bought from the folks at lawn and leisure in lees summit missouri.they where quick with my emails and had shipping quotes on the first bid.

Theres actually four JD stores here but they are owned by the same company they deal with yellow iron mostly. I even asked if the would get to within 5000.00 of my state side bid and they said NO....Hey I tried. Looks like I might be doing all my own maintance/warranty work /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif.
Weathers been great this year we finally got some snow after not having any for the last three years, I don't even think we got anything below +30 last winter, kind of strange.

I did get a break on the taxes being from Alaska I didn't have to pay any I've never had to pay on any other outside purchase just showed them my driver licence and was exempt . Alaska dosn't have sales or income taxs. Some towns have 1-3% tax only on goods though.

I did change my order a little. I canceled the TNT, dealer called back and said there was another charge of $975.00 on top of $650.00 for it . I think I can live without it I might just go for the post hole digger instead .

P.S. Theres always an open invatation if you make it to Alaska.

Man things must have changed up there. I spent 3 years at Elmendorf A.F.B. in the late 60s and in the winter we were glad if the temp rose above 0 in the dead of winter. Great summers though. Highs were in the middle 60s. It got up to 78 one time and I though I was going to die of the heat. When I got back to Ohio people gave me some really strange looks when I was only wearing a T-shirt in the middle of November.

I am sure you thought of this but I want to ask.
If you need warranty work done to your tractor is there anyone in Alaska to perform the work for you ?

Major warranty is one thing. (and that's bad) But for the little stuff, my dealer has been happy to send me the parts, and I have been happy to swap them out. It beats getting the tractor to them or them to the tractor. But those options are available. That'll be harder in AK.

Major warranty is what I am talking about,I have change several things on mine that would be classified as warranty work. That is an issue he will have to work when/if the time arrives. A chance you just have to take.

With the money he is saving he could fly in a mechanic to work on his tractor and still be ahead of the game /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm not too worried about the warranty work. My local dealer will have a legal obligation since they represent John Deere. I don't think I will get any special favors but for the savings I can live with that.

I don't know who's more excited ME or my three kids, this will be their first BIG road trip.
