Im getting to hate this time of the year. Last years windstorms dumped quite a few trees. I can think of better ways to spend a weekend

What!? You don't like cutting wood?

Perhaps you need a more fun chainsaw. Personally I love cutting wood. I've cut, split and stacked about 10 cords since the 8th of April. I split all of it by hand. I run a 62cc Stihl 036 and a 77cc MS460 when bucking logs. They're both pretty zippy, which makes the job fun!

I was right there with you until you got to the "split by hand" part. 10 cords of hand splitting would have taken the fun out of it for me, even when I was younger.

I really do enjoy cutting wood. And, like Motown, I have a hydraulic splitter and a couple of good Stihl chainsaws that help. (MS 390 and 046 Magnum) But, the favorite part is burning the wood.

If I put up 10 cords though, it would rot before I could use it all. Our winters aren't that long or cold.

And, for me, it's way past time to put up wood. I have to get mine in the winter. I'm too old and fat to cut wood in the summer. :D

I like cutting about when the leaves are falling or gone in the fall. Cooler with very few bugs. Split/stack it and burn a year or two later..... Don't like working out in the woods when it's hot less I have to.... If I have to take trees out, I wack them in bigger lengths and stack them off the ground to process before the snow comes....

Yeah, burning it sure is fun too!!

I burn most of my wood making maple syrup. The rig I've been using for the last 5 years will burn a full cord in about 12 hours. For next year, I'll be replacing it, though. The new rig will be able to burn a cord in about 4 hours. Here's a picture of the firebox. rps20160519_192313_943.jpg

It's 4' wide and I little more than 4' deep. The pans will sit on top. The total unit is 14' long and then it has 28' of 20" stovepipe. It's a pretty hot fire!! Nothing beats running the cooker at full throtte; burning wood at an incredible rate and making money doing it. Plus, having a blast!!

Dat's a lotta wood! I just started blocking up my pile last weekend with a helper. Long ways to go...

I gotta come down and see your operation one of these days, Motown. I'm all of 10 min away after all...

Any time Dave! We keep pretty busy growing veggies all summer, but I get to cut wood every now and then. Most of my fun happens during the winter, and we usually start cooking syrup around the 10th of March.

I'll send you a PM with my contact info.

We use to burn wood - 4 or 5 full chords per year. I enjoyed the entire process. However, if I had to hand split our Ponderosa pine by hand - I would still be trying to get a second chord split. Ponderosa pine, also called Bull pine is a real PITA to split by hand. Its full on knots and can be "stringy". I used a 30 ton hydraulic splitter. The pines I cut were 30 to 40 inches on the butt.

We gave up on our wood - it would bring so many bugs and a lot of volcanic ash(Mt St Helens) into the house. It just became an on-going mess.

I have hydraulic splitter...cause im much too lazy to split by hand. I do love burning wood as its seems to be so much more pleasurable heat on a cold snowy day, but gathering it still sucks.

Most people dont appreciate just how lazy i am. Im trying to tie with my dog to see whos lazier.

He wins, but im catching up
