Just finish stacking my next winter wood before heat and blackflies and there cousins mosquitoes arrives.
Old timers say...have wood stack by Memorial Day so its dry by Labor Day.

grs,

Nice bit of work you got done there ...

Spent the last two days myself bucking logs into rounds ... still have to split and stack all of it though.

Don't use it to heat the house, but it is the only source of heat for the shop.

Mom loves to work firewood... she is 82 and will go out to my brother's place... a few weeks back redid an old wood pile that was a mess when he bought the place... neat and tidy now...

Came across several nesting mice and one snake... they have rattlesnakes and this was not one!

Wood is problematic here since the burn bans... it use to be kids could make some nice change with a little wood side business... now, most pay to have oak and similar hauled away.

Where mom grew up on a farm people took a lot of pride in their wood reserves and how it was stacked... the first time I had ever received a compliment from my farmer grandfather was when I was about 8 and spent an afternoon stacking wood... never seen him so pleased and remember it this day.

GRSTHEGREAT,

We did our wood "harvesting" in shifts. First, identify the trees - second, fell and limb, third, cut to length, then split and stack in the trailer, then bring back & stack in the wood shed. It usually took two or three trees to get the five full cords we needed.

During this entire process - our black lab Tok would be lying in the shade supervising. The only time he would break a sweat was getting up to move back into the shade as the sun arced across the sky. Wood harvesting was a real chore for him.

I just reworked this old cow feeder to a firewood rack. Now I need to load it up. Should hold about 2 cords. I have one more rack to do. I have lots of wood on the ground. I need to cut, split n stack hopefully before the Texas summer heat wave arrives. Summer heat is pretty bad but still doable. I love working firewood and of course burning in the winter.

I really should be out cutting firewood for next year right now, but I always put it off until Fall. Summer is too hot to mess with it, and with the weather so nice right now, garden and home improvement projects get in the way.

Just wrapping up the wood projects... every winter at least one old oak topples somewhere on the property eliminating the need to actually take a tree for firewood.

Already had 98 degree day... early for this time or year... today it is about 30 degrees colder...

I really got with it last year, cutting/filling all four of my 4 cord sheds. Used one over the winter, have it half full again, another 2 cords, and I'm back at 16 cords cut/split/in a shed. We used 4-6 cords/yr depending on the weather. Got a small fire going tonight, it's in the low 60's here.

Looking good, Andy!!

That looks like some pretty ideal wood to work with. Can't tell the species from the photo, but rounds that diameter are just about my favorite. They split real nice, and you get a nice pile of splits out of just a few pieces.

Ash, red oak, hickory. They look pretty, but only for a short length (or have some other defect).....otherwise I'd saw lumber out of them on the Woodmizer, and burn the slabs.
