That's a BIG Pig!

I've never killed a pig before. I want to now.

Story says it was shot at a hunting club. Sadly, it's not uncommon for some clubs to buy them and let them go for their members to shoot. The fact that he shot it at 50 yards also points towards it being a pet at one time. Then there is the fact that it weighed 500 pounds, a weight very rare in wild hogs because they have to work for their food every day. Wild animals rarely get a lot bigger then the other wild animals of the same species. A little bigger, like 300 hundred or even 350 pounds is believable, but 500 is pushing it. Not impossible, but with everything else involved, unlikely.

There are a bunch of professional hog hunters that would totally agree with you. Farm raised pig let loose.

If it even weighs 500 lbs like they say.

I don't shoot fish in a barrel or do "cage hunts" ! ;)
IMO that was probably "taken" in a confined area. Something like shooting a BISON on Long Island.

I agree.....cage hunts are not hunting. I know a guy who spends big bucks.....goes to a ranch in Colorado...stays in a luxury cabin....drinks expensive wine......has a guide take him out in a UTV and points out three or four nice bulls right over the hill......after the shot.....guides retrieve the animal.....takes meat to the processor and the head to the taxidermist. He has some nice mounts on his wall.......he thinks he's a great hunter. I would rather come back empty handed than do what he does........even if I had the money!

That's not hunting, I don't care who you are!! I agree with you 1000% Killing maybe, but no "man card"

That photo has been around the internet for many years. While it may be a large hog, it isn't as large as the photo show. If you look closely you will see that the hunter has positioned himself much farther from the hog to the back of the photo. This make him look much smaller than the hog, which being really close to the camera, looks huge.

Another scam/trick they use in caged or confined so called hog hunts are to cut the male hogs (testicals/castrate) so they grow larger and quicker. Also this tends to make them less aggressive and tends to have larger cutters, for trophy's. These hogs are called "BARR HOGS". Also when a hogs head is bought in for mounting the teeth tend to get pulled out more for effects. Wether free range or canned hunt.
Heres one I shot free range in central Fl many years ago while playing cowboy on a ranch w/Remmy 700 30/06 open sights, bout 40' away. Over 400lbs no bs weighed on scale. Very rare to come across one like this as others have stated.
Even then taxodermis fee was $600. This type of hog down here we call "piney woods rooter". I'am no expert on species but know thers also razorback/Russian boar/European mix's.

Something wrong with that picture .. Compare the man to the hog .. Then ask yourself if the man weighs 250 is the hog twice the size of the man?
