The amazing sound of an 8.3L Cummins diesel

A Jetta Diesel hardly sounds like what you find in an old 80s CAT D9.

Man, those days are almost over and probably a good thing, Tier NOTHING compliant,but I don't think I have ever heard anything sweeter. Can you imagine having that when the rest of the neighborhood is dark! lol F$^^%ing with the throttle like that would make your electrical stuff go all funny though.

I was looking for something I saw a few weeks ago, but this beets it anyway.

gotta agree on disagreeing here. mostly all the older diesels have their own sound. the new ones not so much, in fact not much noise at all.
kind of sating all rock bands sound the same.
love listening to the old diesels. Favs... Old Jimmys, 7.3 Powerstrokes and from a mile away the old Cummins

You know I can tell a Detroit diesel from a CAT or a Cummins, too. I can tell a powderstroke far away, too.
The newer ones do now all sound more similar, so much quieter

I guess if I had a favorite sound (in a diesel) it would be a straight piped 1693 Caterpillar overhead cam inline 6. I don't though. My 7.3 does talk a bit with it's Banks Turbo but still just a diesel to me. Ain't nothing between the turbo outlet and the tailpipe but 5/8" exhaust tubing.

New ones don't make much noise (I agree) but I suspect it's because of all the emissions junk the exhaust has to pass through before it exits the exhaust pipe.

Yeah, that's a UK thing... They had to be different from the entire Europe and almost world.

This is the sound of my youth on the ranch. Those cattle haulers all ran detroit's and could be heard miles away. Those cattle haulers are mean, they will run you off the road if you piss them off.

The Scania V8's also sound really nice with straight pipes. I hear them coming miles away before they even enter my city.
