You nailed it on the head Robby. The dang ground is just too hard since the drought set in. I've been rebuilding all our fences since last year and have had the same problem. I had to do exactly what you're doing, carry buckets of water to drill holes. It's gotten a bit better since we've gotten some rain lately, but I still hit some hard going from time to time. The ground was so hard last summer that I couldn't drive a t-post with a 10-pound sledge, standing in the bed of my truck. Beats all I've ever seen.
