My 1988 Toyota Hilux pickup:

270k miles
four oil and oil filter changes total
front brakes around 120k
one clutch at 199k
one clutch master and slave cylinder at 205k
one alternator at 230k
seven or eight sets of tires (I forgot)

And that's it. Last year the bracket holding the a/c compressor broke, and that's about the only reason I'm thinking of replacing it.

Two things,

A jack plane I bought fifteen years ago at a fea market. Cost $20 and I pick it up for every little woodworking or construction wood adjustment I need.

A hammer my father bought before I was born which I now have. It has built so many things, I can't even guess. We replaced the handle a few times when the hammer was abused, and the head was replaced twice, but it's still going strong.

If the handle and head have both been replaced, can it still be called the same hammer? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

My dad's 12 lb sledge hammer. I don't know when he got it but I used it as a kid, then again starting in 1976. Split 6-8 cord wood yearly with it until 2000 when I retired it. Head was mushroomed with cracks extending back into the forging. It hangs in a place of honor in the shop now.

Sorry, the bit about the hammer was intended as humor. I tend to forget the smily faces. It's gotten me into trouble on TBN before.

Thats a tough one !
But I would have to say my glock 26 is the best item I have ever bought, it has gotten me out of being rolled in Portland Oregon 2 X. So I would not be here to share this if it wasnt for my little equalizer !

My circa 1899 Hay- Budden anvil. No transistors, resistors, relays, batteries or proprietary parts that have to be ordered from overseas. It can sit there on it's stump for months and when I need it, it's ready to go. I don't have to worry about stale fuel, fuel stabilizer or whether hornets have built a nest in the exhaust. No credit card number to get it to work, no passwords, no need for tech support. I don't have to upgrade the anvil to get it to work with current hammers. I don't have to worry about scratches or birds crapping on it, if the dog lifts it's leg on it it's no big deal. I don't have to feed it or take it to the vet or doctor and I don't have to buy it presents to get it over a snit, it's always ready to go. It doesn't gripe or complain although it has a ring that will give you an earache and if you miss the work the rebound might kill you if you hold the hammer wrong. Sometimes low tech is the best! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
