The big storm in Buffalo

What a heliva dump, never seen snow that heavy in one fall. A lot of farmers over here would love to have the moisture from the melt. Some have been feeding the last of their stock for a 1000 days straight in temps regularly into the 120s f . Poor buggers on both counts

They interviewed a guy using a snow blower on his roof during last nights news. He said it was only taking off the top couple feet, after that the snow was too compressed for the snow blower to get a bite.

I wonder how many chimneys / exhaust pipes / water heater vents are buried under snow allowing CO to built up inside the home.

Good point Square 1... kinda scary...

I have cleaned many roofs from the roof and from the ground. Where would you start?

Most likely you could loose windows no matter where you start BUT with rain in the forecast I would do something. Probably start on the eaves and work my way up. Maybe in a Y pattern to give the rain a place to go. Maybe throw some rock salt or calcium in the bottom of the Y to keep it open. If not the rain will create a water dam on the roof!

Then Pray....

I guess doing something on the roof is better than shoveling your walkway or drive!

What a mess.

I have lived here all my life, Im about 40 minutesoutside Buffalo normally we get more snow here in the hills but only got 2 feet Thursday night. This is bad lots of folks not working for a week businesses collapsing, will they rebuild or move away.I have never seen 5 inches per hour and snowbands not moving along with wind. Imagine a 10 wheel dump truck with chains loaded not being able to move the snow.I would say you needed a 30hp compact tractor with a 6ft blower and loader to do your driveway. The snow was dense to top it off its raining today.I was a kid for the blizzard of 77 that was colder with stronger wind but this is more snow 65- 85 inch totals. Snowmobiles couldn't hardly get through it. I had friends work 7 hours to snowblow with garden tractors to do a 100 ft driveway.crazy

One of the local farmers also lost 15 greenhouses, all of next years crop plus what he sells. The dairy farmers have been dumping milk all week because there was no way to transport it.

The Bills management should have put their fans first. Forget about shoveling the stadium. Use that money to get help to the people. The Red Cross, Salvation Army and other organizations could use the funding to help the people. Really? A Football game ?
