Re: MCA--here\'s a caution for you

Thanks MCA,

Trescrows,

Yea, I'm afraid if there was one it would not be in the circuit long. Probably need to short that switch out, rather than cut the wire though. My guess is that kind of interlock circuit uses normallly open contacts that are closed when the switch is pushed...

My old garden tractor had a stupid feature, it would not cut in reverse and if the mower was running and you shiften into reverse, the engine shut down...that lasted about 10 minutes after I got it home...

I'm surprised they don't have a sensor to turn the engine off if you take your seat belt loose! Whoops...perhaps this is a preview of things to come... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: MCA--here\'s a caution for you

I don't mind putting my BX22 in neutral to start. The seat switch would be of no value. How do you line up your backhoe when installing it. You have to be off the tractor while it is running. I would not get off the tractor with my brush hog engaged. I don't like getting hit with flying debris. many times you need to be off the tractor while it is running. The seat switch does not make any sense. Removing the lawyers from our lives, that makes sense... Gary

Re: MCA--here\'s a caution for you

Bill:

My 5030 has a switch under the seat. If you get out of the tractor with the pto engaged, the motor turns off. To operate the pto without you on the seat, get in start it in neutral, get out, tip the seat forward and then walk around the cab, open the door and engage the pto. I don't think cutting the wire would do it, however, I think you'd have to jumper the switch so the seat thinks there is "someone" in it all the time.

You can "inch" the tractor forward and backward without sitting on the seat, however. Just a touch on the HST pedal will move the tractor a little. Any more than that will kill the engine. I call it a "big brother switch".

Re: MCA--here\'s a caution for you

Good grief, when I said cut the wire I was being ornery. Yes, in most cases you will actually jumper the switch. All these switches are going to do in time is cause problems anyway--get rid of them. J

Do you wear your seatbelt while driving your motor vehicle?

Re: MCA--here\'s a caution for you

5030, yeah, I wear my seat belt in my motor vehicle and I also wear it on my tractor and I wear my helmet on my bike and I wear my harness when I fly---next question. I tell you this for sure--if my airplanes quit when they were flown upside down or my Tundra engine shut off when it was in neutral or reverse (so you cannot have a backing accident) or my bike quit running when my rear was not in the seat---I would cut, jumper, remove, mutilate, blow torch or whatever is appropriate to the offending switches and wires and that would include on my tractor. Is that clear enough for you /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif? I also removed the "Do Not Remove Sticker" from our new matress--is that OK or will the police come after me /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif? If I sell that matress and the new owners roll off and break their rearends will they be able to hire a lawyer and sue me---? Do I care? Live Free, Die Free and unencumbered by the PC Thought Police. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif J
