Oh, we did allright thanks, do better with the pigs. We picked the grove ourselves this year and may do it again next year if the kids don't mutiny.

Cindy:

Good to see more Florida folk here at the site, gee it's feeling more like home all the time /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Loved the story and welcome to TBN, give us a little more info in your profile, acre's of land, what kind of tractor did you have to pull out, where in Florida.

itsmeCindi,

Great Story! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Welcome to TBN!

A family raising citrus in Florida? I thought after the freezes in the 80s that was the end of citrus in central Florida. All the groves I used to see looked like they had been in a battle
after the cold. The next thing the groves sprouted where
strip malls and houses..... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm glad to see someone besides the big companies growing
citrus!

Ditto on what JohnMiller3 said. I honestly thought someone copied and pasted a internet book or something for this story at first. Very good job and start writing more. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, I write sometimes too much I think, as it seems everything that comes out of my mouth is a story. Too much time alone I guess I end up reminiscing with myself. We are not big time here, 12 acres of Hamlins but pfffftt, were surrounded by people who grow oranges. We're just getting into Valencia season and now I get to laugh at all the other moms like me running back and forth to the scales with orange branches stuck in their hair!

Now that my 10 year daughter has her green belt in karate, is as quick as lightning and can easily out run me all day long, I've had to resort to that line.... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Great story!

Funny how they think a little distance is all they need, that their agility and speed will save them. The little hooter. I just smile and say, 'you know you rely on me for your every basic need, I'll see you when your socks are dirty. Oh, wait, did I say socks? Sorry, I forgot to tell you son, I washed a red towel with your socks by mistake, hope the guys in phys ed like pink. HAH! Deal with that.'

Cindi,
I don't read. I hate to read. I loose interest in whatever I am forced to read. My mind always wonders to a million miles away. Yet, your short story captured me. I was there, working in the orchard with you all. I watch clearly your husband's futile attempt at corralling your son. What a sight that must have been.
You truly have a gift to write. In my opinion you should explore that wonderful talent.
